Is that the episode where Phil talks about his 'revolutionary' goalie gloves (basically an early prototype of what they use now) that he was given by the West German reserve keeper on the pre-season tour?

Looking forward to it though most of the footage has been available for a while. Hopefully the series will be every weekend/episode though occasionally over a series of BMR, some weekends are skipped. We were featured 8 times that season as the BigMatch as the LWT game plus 4 regional away games shown as shorter highlights. Only one of the four wasn't shown in London at the time, which was Boro away - anyone ever seen that footage?

I've never understood why the BBC haven't done something like this on BBC Four with old Match of the Days. Perhaps they haven't got the archives of the early 70s episodes (a bit like the TOTPs from the same era) but I thought from the late 70s onwards - about 1978 - they stopped routinely wiping tapes of old shows and a proper archival policy was put in place.

You mean future generations will be able to watch Mrs Brown's Boys?
Wipe the tapes! For the love of God, wipe them!!

I remember being on a supporters club coach to old Trafford (the ‘Redknapp in the stand’ match ) and they had 1 Mrs Browns Boys dvd on a loop all the way there and all the way back . 11 hour round trip because of road works etc
Very nearly jumped out the fire exit in the brief moments the coach was moving to end it all .

I went with my 12 year old daughter on the supporters coach to Burnley and someone had the bright idea of bringing the inbetweeners dvd.I’d never seen it before, and she certainly hadn’t.Luckily she had a book with her to read, but that was a long long journey.

I have to say, in its defence, Mrs Brown's Boys helped me with my son's developement.
Normally children cannot walk much before the age of 1 or talk, much before the age of 2.
We had never seen it and happened to watch some and were amazed to see our 4 month old climb out of his cot, walk upright to get the remote control and switch it off, saying " Utter rubbish!" before going back to his cot!
Thanks BBC!

At least 4 shows have been left out so far. Sometimes its because of damage to the original master tapes. That said, Charlton v Sunderland 15/11/75 is not being shown, and i know for a fact, that exists. West Ham v Sheffield United, West Ham v Stoke and Arsenal v Aston Villa have also been missed out.

The majority of Match of the day's up until 76/77 are archived in b & w. They were ''junked'' to those awful b & w ''scratchy'' film versions to save money, by re using the colour tapes, which were apparently expensive. Thats the reason thats been given in the past. Considering LWT kept the vast majority of their TBM'S in colour, i suspect thats possibly bs, and penny pinching/lack of foresight were the reason(s). From 76/77, the Match of the day's in the archive are in colour, but not all of them exist, even in to the 80's Aside from that, some are the matches only with no studio links. The BBC wiping policy is actually worse than fist feared. Think they still wipe stuff, because they dont see any value in it.

I know a few of the people in charge of the archive at ITV and they have found some real treasures last few years, they are going through a programme at the moment digitising all assets that are on video tape, a lot of the old kids shows from the 80's have been done like Button Moon which are all on ITVX now. Guy I know found a lost episode of Comical history tour of Britain which he is very proud of and thats now on ITVX
Part of that is finding old football matches as there is a real appetite for people to watch these games, hence the big match at the moment but they are working on quite a few football docs which will likely go on itvx

I did wonder why, on the MOTD2 tribute to Stan last season, some of his goals (Arse H 73/74? Spurs A 74/75?) were shown in B&W despite origianlly being in colour. Here's the answer! thanks
