It's not a new situation. Huw Jenkins used to love letting players get into the last year of their contracts without bothering to try and extend. We got promoted to the Premier League and immediately lost both DeVries and Pratley as a result.
Any player that a team wants to keep should be negotiated with from at least eighteen months out of contract expiry. If nothing has been agreed by the twelve month stage then the for sale signs should be up. |  |

I thought it was agreed that Coleman left because he wasn't up to the job. All the right things were said but he didn't leave so much as he was ousted. He wanted to do a good job, he was a nice bloke but he just wasn't up to it which, as the last few months has evidenced, looks to be 100% accurate.
