Personally, loved him as a player and early days as a pundit. Gave us some memorable displays as an England Player and had legendary status , quite rightly.
But seems he got too big for himself and drifted into politics , probably without knowing a great deal about what he was shouting about.
Not been watching Saturday MOTD for many years but might be tempted back.
Thoughts on his exit?

excellent player, but very gauche when he first began presenting. unfortunately his own agenda took over and he used the BBc as his own personal mouthpiece, seemingly with total immunity from any kind of impartiality rules. couldn't stand the way he waved his arms about when talking as if it reinforced what he was saying. it didn't. also paid a fortune for being a naff presenter, though some say he was the greatest. BS. now that he is going, hopefully it will also signal the demise of his a**e-licking sycophants shearer and richards; we live in hope.

I thought he became quite an accomplished presenter and although he was the equal of any player who worked on MOTD he didn’t try to wear two hats and let the pundits get on with it. As for his personal political views while I agree with him on most things I wouldn’t dream of sharing them with a large group of people I didn’t know. As for the impartiality bit, he was a contractor at the BBC and not a member of staff so those rules didn’t apply to him. Overall for the son of a market greengrocer the boy has done well. Time to kick his heels back and relax.

It's got nothing to do with whether he was "member of staff" or "contractor"
He knew he was in some kind of breach of guidelines, otherwise he needn't have carried out a deletion on social media (don't know the exact details, something to do with a rat symbol being aimed at Jews - but neither do i care about his opinion on the subject - he's an ex-footballer)
Is no-one allowed to question the Israeli government grinding 2 million people into the dust before our very eyes? Do notions about sports presenters and the BBC's arms length impartiality trump all that then?
I imagine the bloke, quite rightly, has decided what it is that matters most to him.

Curious that football pundit Carragher on Sky who spat in a child's face is still allowed to continue in the role. Different standards by different broadcasters?

He shared a highly offensive social media post and has accepted it was wrong to do that.

Isreal is doing to the people of Gaza what a certain person did to them in the 1940s. And where is the help NOW from the western allies to help these people... It is no different then as it is now.
Nowhere. Just standing back and watching...

Sorry but people employed by the BBC receive a pension, but Linaker together with all the other contractors at the BBC don’t. Contractors invariable refer to themselves a self employed, look at the construction industry. The contractors working with any firm are not subject to the same level of rules, holidays per year for example, or the same appraisal process. Notice when he finished he use the phrase “working with the BBC” not working for the BBC.

It's interesting that a lot of the people calling for his head are the same people who call for freedom of speech and opinion when, for instance, a slaver's statue is thrown into the sea.. The same people who believe p*ki isn't offensive, it's just where they're from. 'Nothing wrong with gollywogs, people are too sensitive these days' Freedom of speech, but only if it agrees with you isn't freedom of speech.

And as such... subject to the same guidelines - which (as you know) were put in place due to his previous breach of impartiality
The BBC has been less than partial in its reportage on all subjects since at least the early 1990s. Due to criticism of the fact they were breaking their charter and the threat of potential withdrawal of the licence fee, he was causing them considerable embarrassment hence the clarification of guidelines i posted the link to
So i repeat - just in case it wasn't fully understood at the time - it's got nothing to do with his terms of employment but the simple and indisputable fact that he was being paid to work for them
Edit: added to which, anyone who thinks it's fine to retweet (or whatever) a post which characterises the Jews as rats - the very symbol used against them in Germany in the 1930s/40s, had better take a deep breath and watch the footage from the concentration camps when they were liberated by the Allies 80 years ago. All they want to do now is live in peace, but woe betide anyone whose stated aim is their extermination from the earth, which is the stated purpose of Hamas. The people of Gaza would be safe and secure if their leadership stopped trying to eliminate the Jews. What isn't reported in the BBC or other MSM outlets is that demos are taking place by Gazans who are now waking up to the fact that it's their leadership that's bringing them down, after the 7 October 2023 atrocity, and whilst Hamas hides within the population like the utter cowards they are

He was never booked in his playing days now he rightly is collecting Red Cards…
Have my opinions on the subject matter like everyone, don’t commit atrocities to start a war then seek sympathy & support when retaliated against….
A bit like the old you can only respond with "proportionate force" when the one that instigates it inevitably comes under return fire, when has that every been a thing when in a war.
Have a listen to Douglas Murray, hes always a good listen and talks a lot of sense

The Reithian principles where to " inform ,educate and entertain". Whether you agree with his views or not Linekers personal opinions on any subject other than football related matters do not fall within those founding principles of the BBC. A public service for which we are obliged to pay for has become the springboard for grossly overpaid celebrities to spout their personal opinions. Stopped watching it years ago. Slowly but surely it is orchestrating its own demise in a vast media world of choice.

Hamas represents the Palestinian people as much as the IRA did the Irish people as a whole. The world and his wife know that what the Israeli military are doing to ordinary people isn't right, including and especially the blockading of humanitarian aid. It's an emporer's clothes scenario.
The fact a bloke who works for the BBC, and was leaving anyway, is exasperated about it is a non story.
Thris thread shouldn't have been started. We've got enough corrosive culture war BS going on as it is. Just go onto Twitter/X for that if you wanna indulge yourself.

Lineker's a tw@t. Couldn't care what he thinks about anything. He's made MOTD unwatchable with his greasy persona. At last Auntie has got shut.
Apart from being a ridiculous figure, soon worked out and lampooned by Alistair McGowan, he is joined by the self-appointed 'comedian' figure of Micah Richards, and the always controversial Alan Shearer. Someone thinks this is a winning combination. I won't watch it.
