End of Term Report 24/25 – Attack on 14:45 - May 23 by lassel | I’ll die on the hill that Celar is really not that bad - he’s also not *that* good, he’s a 10 goal a season striker with a fair wind and playing downhill. From the first game of the season his game was pretty simple to see, be on the move and get to the penalty spot. Several times in the first few games we had 3 on 2 breaks and he went to the penalty spot for Smyth to draw his man and tee him up only for Smyth to shoot into the first man. Several times his movement got him into position to score from set pieces only for him to miss the ball…. Watch his Lugano goals we signed him for, penalties or found on the penalty spot. The crazy situation is us going into the season with a striker who doesn’t run the channels and doesn’t hold the ball up, and a striker who can’t move but can hold the ball up as they require completely different setups. Obviously move him on if anyone comes in for him this summer, but he did get a bit of a harsh rap this season. [Post edited 23 May 14:47]

Which doesn't explain either of his goals against Cardiff. The explanation could be that his game was starting to evolve and his injury came at just the wrong time. If he had got to ten goals last season he would have been our top scorer and his shocking beginning would have been forgotten. I believe he should get an early chance next season to prove himself and compete with Kelman for a starting berth with Frey and Kolli as impact subs and Lloyd &Bennie out on loan.

His first goal v Cardiff came from him taking up the penalty spot on a set piece and his second goal was him being alive to a hopeful outball

Good luck on that hill Our only hope would appear to be Kelman although I am a big fan of Frey. I’m on the record of saying Kolli is another I rate highly but I’d not class him as an out and out striker Back to Celar….. simply an awful player for this level or, in fact, most levels in England These “play to his strengths” and “not set up to suit him” comments have strong echoes of one Connor Washington. There’s a reason for that….. Celar is a carbon copy of him for me. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll get fit and firey over the summer and grow to love the English game so we have a decent player on our hands. I cannot see it and think we’ll be looking for an exit route, but I’d love to be wrong.

I mean I do understand the kernel of your opinon on Celar but at the moment it can only be that. Celar played rubbish, albeit in a rubbish team, and just as he seemed to be getting the hang of it is out for the season. Not only his first season in England but he hasn't played in any league comparable. Still just 19 appearances. so it's not a Hevertton situation, and we bought him for actual money so he's going to get at least a second season whether people like it or not. crowing "he's shit" at this point just sounds like a precursor for many many 'I told you so' posts Washington came straight from League 1, got nearly 100 appearances and never really got any better. I don't think they're comparable... yet. We should be looking at Kelman as the starter however.

Is Frey that bad ? Nine goals and he’s barely been fit . He's limited but he works defenders well and while the rest haven’t been great . I think we should cut him some slack . As for Kelman he definitely deserves a run in the side . He’s improved dramatically.

Think that could be very useful as a 4th choice striker (particularly with Frei and Kolli having questionable fitness / availability levels). Unfortunately I feel a lot of our striker’s effectiveness next season is going to hinge on Frei’s fitness / availability.

Interestingly BOS converted to a wing back in Turkey, perhaps Lloyd should do the same. Blistering pace and can play what's in front of him. Very alike. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

100% this. I can't see a footballer in Celar, not even one hiding very, very deep. Camouflaged as something else maybe

If Harrison Ashby doesn’t have the brain to play full back, Alfie Lloyd definitely doesn’t.

God bless you NorthernR I know it’s been said a lot but let’s say it again, you make supporting QPR worthwhile and not many can claim that (including a lot of the players) Agree 100% on Frey as well. The man is useful
