...coz I just know there's going to be at least one on this board, can you explain how Citgo gets away with this?
Guessing, it's because Bass didn't register its trademark in the USA.

Patents and trademarks are different things.

You want an intellectual property (IP) lawyer :-)

I'm not an IP lawyer but if you do a bit of Googling you can find that both Bass and Citgo are registered trademarks:

https://trademarks.justia.com/710/57/bass-and-co-71057992.html

Citgo's was registered in 2017, so I'm sure Bass are aware of it by now.

I'm guessing they are sufficiently different for Bass not to try (or bother) challenging it. Bass is a solid red triangle, Citgo isn't, if you look closely!

Apparently Bass is the UK's oldest trademark, so I learned something new today :-)

Not a patent lawyer but no a bit, trademarks very difficulty to protect, multiple juristictions etc.

Trademark usually only applies to a category , I.e Food and beverages is a different category to Health.

You can't trademark common shapes or terms so in this scenario, you cannot trademark the red triangle, and the name, font and colour of the name are different enough

Thanks for your thoughts. My question prompted after being served a pint that tasted like West Texas Intermediate.
