Why on earth would Leicester want Russel Martin???
He is as much to blame as anyone for Southampton ending the season on one of the lowest points ever.
His recruitment for them was abysmal. The same old, mindless picking of players he knew, even though they were nowhere near good enough

Saints were so poor under him because he failed to land his number one Goal Keeper. He could burst the bank next year and get Fisher and all the defensive problems would be solved

Russell Martin will get Leicester promoted.

Will he keep them up in the Premier League? No chance.

If they had kept him I think they would have gained more points but still have gone down.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Not many more points. That side was nowhere near good enough and absolutely no chance when playing it around at the back.
Leicester will sack him by Christmas or finish outside the top 8.

In fairness most people expected him to be sacked by Christmas when he joined Southampton. I don't think we can under estimate the ability of a Premier League squad/budget to mask even Russy's incompetence.

If they don't have a points deduction they'll probably be there or thereabouts. Almost certainly not doing as well as a capable manager would have them doing of course, but well enough.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Martin to Leicester is interesting. His type of football, with the best players in the division, could blow everyone else away, but is just as likely to derail a team you would expect to go up whoever the manager is. If they’d played it safe, I’m sure they’d have gone up comfortably.

Will Still is another gamble. Again, I’d have expected them to go for a proven Championship manager. These clubs don’t have to be creative or take a risk, they’ve already got the bigger budgets and best players.

If these two struggle in the way a Cooper or a Dyche probably wouldn’t, it may open the field up a bit and soften the blue of Birmingham and Wrexham coming up.

I'm sorry, but I just don't believe the Martin Hype. His football may look good on the eye to the neutrals but it was boring and limited. He took over a saints team who had just come down and retained majority of their PL squad, and added some Targets. He almost blew their promotion hopes 2 seasons ago, with some poor form in the run up to the end of the season then having to settle for playoffs. Yes he then got them up (credit where it's due) but going up into the premier league and having the arrogance to think you can just outplay established PL teams with better players and resources and not having the insight to make any tactical changes to make yourself more difficult to beat resulted in their doom. He's all about 'his way' and the 'project', give him a good team just relegated and I no doubt think he'll push for instant promotion back, but when it comes to being adaptable against better teams in a better competition he's out of his depth.

I agree with you on most of this. But ant decent manager would have taken Southampton straight back up automatically.
They went through some poor form that landed them in the playoffs.
He is an absolutely terrible manager

He split this board. I gave him a fair crack ( as did many) but the point came when he was clearly a bad choice. The point for me was proved when he said saomething along the lines of he'd rather lose his way than win another way, a line he repeated at Southampton.

It wouldn't surprise me if Sheehan ti=urned out to be a far better manager and ends up coaching in the EPL...succesfully.

You seem to have an ever increasing list. I have run it through our computers up here in the dark narrow valley of Resolven.

With our latest algorithms recently or purchased from the Hwang Ho Institute. We can announce based on the data so far that your pseudo hate list is entirely random with a slight bias against the people's of the Neath and Dulais valleys.

I believe Martin could have got O'Reilly had he not grossly overpaid for Fisher and trusted Benda. The club have been making these mistakes consistently. He then played the fans using the unpopularity of the owners and the narrative that "the problem on not the manager but the owners".

Martin got Fisher not O'Rielly and Cooper wanted Keinan Davis rather than develop Gyorkeres.

This is preliminary data only. We can do a fuller analysis in a few months.

With over 500 league games played, mainly at Norwich City and almost 30 full international caps it’s fair to say that Russell Martin may well know a thing or two more than the likes of Dr Winston who has probably never kicked a ball in anger.

When Martin went to Southampton in that summer the club received over £100m in transfer fees for players who were leaving including their star men like Ward-Prowse who joined West Ham for more than £30m. Southampton brought in several free transfers and loan players spending only a tenth of that.

Despite losing so many players from their squad they went on an unbeaten run of more than 20 games which I think is a Saints club record. They weren’t able to compete financially and predictably along with Ipswich and Leicester came straight back down.

He’s a bright young manager who will have learned from his mistakes. The passing out from the back policy can of course work and does work effectively. He will get another chance next season and with a modified approach he will do well. He’s aware that he needs to make some adjustments. I don’t understand the dislike from some. Could it be jealousy. Surely not.

Well it goes like this
If he's so good , why deploy tactics that were totally inappropriate given the skill set of his players
Having left us , he goes to Soton and buries them
He learnt nothing
I didnt understand those who didn't dislike hiim
Jealousy it ain't
Russ did garner an incredibly loyal fanbase and did so whilst winning absolutely nowt which is some achievement .

I didnt like him because of his hair and teeth

Anyway , enjoy the summer rains

Of course passing out from the back can work if you have the players to implement it, he didn't Southampton were lambs to the slaughter in the Premier league.

Liverpool Newcastle just to name two, are playing a much higher tempo get it forward quickly
