QPR Women 16:39 - May 29 with 3415 views | JezHoops | With Hayley Peacock and Kasha Pettit (being?) moved on and most of the squad being released are those in charge abandoning our women’s team or does CN have a master plan for them. I hope it isn’t the former. They might not be a source of income for the club, but they are an important sign of a community-minded and inclusive club. It isn’t a subject covered much here, but it would be a shame for QPR to be going backwards in an area that is growing rapidly in popularity .
QPR Women on 17:06 - May 29 with 2144 views | QPRSam | The Women's setup looks to be one of the things Nourry has put a lot of focus on to be fair. I'm sure their squad will be bolstered up. Last summer they were officially aligned and integrated into QPR for the first time: https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/june/10/women-and-girls-programme-restructured/ QPR FC Women and QPR Girls will now be aligned under the club infrastructure of QPR Holdings Limited, rather than QPR in the Community Trust, with the vision of developing an elite pathway into our women's first team. And then an update around New Years: https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/december/25/christian-nourry-provides-christmas- It is such a joy to have our Women’s team in our elite training centre at Heston. They endured a number of significant structural changes at the start of the campaign, with the appointment of a new head coach in Danny Harrigan and the signing of 11 first-team players. After a period of adaptation, their form has been excellent: unbeaten in eight matches in the league and making it to the FA Cup third-round stage for the first time since 2015. The eagle-eyed fans among you will notice that we have made it a priority this season to introduce you to these incredible women through the set up of additional women’s team dedicated social media channels and via ticket offers for existing season ticket holders for the select matches that they currently play at MATRADE Loftus Road. In the November international break, our women took on one of the strongest teams in the league this campaign in Norwich City and beat them via a late strike at the Loft End from Melia D’Santos. The women did this in front of the third-largest crowd at Loftus Road for a women’s game in QPR history.

Well said. Of course it isn't as up there as the men but I would love them to raise up the leagues and get some much needed exposure. And even if you are anti women's sport generally, as a supporter of the club you surely have to see that raising the profile of our women's side in an ever-growing market...has to be a good thing.

It wouldn’t take that much investment to take it to the next level, and it would raise the profile of the whole club. A lot of the players actually support qpr,so they are really living the dream.I wish I could get to some of their games but my daughter plays women’s football, and that kicks off at 2pm too. Best wishes to all our teams at all levels. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I wish them well 100% I think it's great how it's grown lately, if there's an appetite for it and people enjoy it etc etc I think fair play, I was just wondering if people really cared if it really moves them like football does at times, imagine the euphoria the Sunderland fans felt on Saturday or when Zamora scored in 2014! Them moments that football conjures up, them moments are real and I don't believe anyone feels that watching women's football but maybe I'm wrong

Appears a few do. Whether that’s right on, PC or trendy OR people genuinely feeling it’s a good watch or over arching passion for any level or discipline that carries the crest of QPR FC who knows? For me I find womens football miles away from what I prefer to watch. I say fair play to those who enjoy it, who play it or who earn a living out of it but it’s not for me at the moment. Maybe it will be one day….. I used to enjoy men’s tennis but now I find it unwatchable as it’s bang boom and too fast; much prefer the women’s code as it’s a bit slower, dare I say more skilful and thus more enjoyable to watch. (Trying to resist reference to skirts…. don’t mention skirts….white skirts… no… no..no) I’ve heard all dinosaur, sexist, Neanderthal jibes that come back but that’s how I feel about the women’s game and into that pot would go a QPR Ladies game.

I think you’ll find there are millions of people who do care passionately. I don’t think anyone has the right to make judgment on behalf of the rest of the football world. Football inspires passion in all of us…men and women. Now quite why so many get passionate about their Premier league team that expects to win week in week out..well that’s another matter.

I agree, mainly about the skirts! The growth and interest in women's tennis, golf and boxing all seem organic and removed from political identity on the whole, maybe boxing has been pushed a little but football just seems to forced, there's a motive behind it, at least it feels like that to me! If you don't agree you should be embarrassed apparently!

I went with my daughter, granddaughter and son to the women’s Euro final at Wembley a few years ago and I can assure you that almost 80,000 were there to see history being made.We saw an England team actually win a trophy, something most of us have never seen a men’s England team do. I’ve been to several women’s international matches and I’m going to a few in Switzerland in July, most of which are nearly sold out. They aren’t as good as a man’s team, but they are the best they can be.Why would anyone watch the championship as the players aren’t as good as premier league players if it was only based on the standard of football you see. At the moment, women’s matches mostly don’t have players rolling over 3 times feigning injury, and most players accept the decisions of the officials without the bickering we regularly see at loftus rd. It isn’t for everyone, but an awful lot of fans enjoy women’s football, myself included.

How is growth in women's football not organic? Certainly in our local football fields there are far, far more girls playing than 5-10 years ago and none have claimed to be forced there by "woke agendas". In fact, they strangely seem to be doing it just for enjoyment! Since the 90s females were obviously starting to take more interest in men's football, possibly because the hooligan element wasn't in grounds so much any more. England winning the Euros was huge in terms of boosting interest in the UK and the world cup here in Australia in 2023 was a big success. Tickets were well priced and attendances were excellent. I went to the final and the standard was really good, especially Spain who were technically superb. Its also very obvious that the early adopters in women's football such as US, Canada, Australia etc are rapidly being caught by other countries as the women's game grows. Yes they wouldn't beat a men's team. Same as women tennis players wouldn't beat men and women sprinters, boxers etc. Doesn't mean a thing, there's still very much a place and an audience for it. Its like saying QPR shouldn't bother because we're not in the prem or the champions league.

Well put. It always make me laugh when male sports fans denigrate women's sports for not being of a good enough quality. If that was the only reason to enjoy or follow sport then every single one of us QPR fans are even more stupid than we realise. What is interesting is that in the female sports that are more developed, such as tennis and cricket, they are actually providing old school elements that the male game has moved on from in its ever-increasing desire for power and stamina. In tennis, that is rallies rather than huge serves bombing past on grass. In cricket, that is batters having to rely on skill and touch rather than just brute force launching boring six after six. I see no reason why women's football won't develop into being a healthy alternative in the same way.

My 13 year old daughter has grown up watching QPR men’s team and is a huge football fan. Thankfully this is just at a time when women’s football is starting to gain real popularity. She’s playing in the sussex league (11 aside, full size pitches for 70mins a match throughout august to February in the rain and wind) - She’s been on the Brighton pathway academy (credit to them - they are so good in the local community) - the Sussex league structure has 48 teams in her age group… that’s just sussex u14’s league - there’s dozens of counties and loads of age groups - the girls game is growing and will be a very high standard in five-ten years. I have to say I’ve been impressed with the growing standard of football in girls football. Because of her 7 years of watching QPR in an actual stadium rather than the millions of kids (mainly boys) watching YouTube clips of Ronaldo/Messi); she reads the game incredibly well and also has quite an engine on her which is great for her as a midfielder. Do I care about women’s football? Yes, I do because i can see how good it’s going to be and because it brings my daughter and I so much fun and time together. Here’s the thing - generally there are ‘open leagues’ up to the age of 13 (mixed boys and girls) then teams are split by gender as the physicality changes - I won’t say that the England women will ever be able to physically compete with the England men’s team, but given a lifetime of training, which not even our very own Chloe Kelly benefitted from, I think some of these emerging girls will be as technically gifted (if not better) than the men - that said I just appreciate both games on their own merits. Finally, I mentioned about the Brighton academy - my daughters favourite womens team is, you’ve Guessed it, Brighton - and I can’t blame her given all that they’ve invested in her and all they do in the community… let’s get behind QPR ladies football for this exact reason. "Why all of a sudden the push?" Why not give it a push? What is wrong with that? Do you mean the coverage? Probably because there is a lot of interest in it now. Fair enough you aren't interested, nor are some of my friends, but that doesn't mean it's forbidden for the rest of us not to enjoy watching it. I would enjoy it a lot more too if I could have a successful QPR team to support.

I hope my last post has contextualised the difference we’re seeing in the last five years and the impact it’s having where girls are not quaintly learning a new skill or having a go, but being encouraged and supported to develop their talent to the best of their ability with the same level of opportunity that boys have had all these years - this is new and the change will show. Mixed football continues until U18 in Suffolk I think. It does make the girls stronger and better players, but it doesn’t do much good for the girls who only play girls football if the best players aren’t in their teams, and a few teams fold because of the lack of players at U16 level. I also think that a lot of the present England women’s team played in mixed football later in their teenage years.
