Incoming ..... another club teaser on 11:48 - Jun 3 with 1830 views | samueloneils | We will tell from Jim`s signings what he believes are the priorities next season. If he concentrates on midfield and defence like last year, then we may be in for more disappointment. Probably number 1 priority is a reliable keeper though. He may have to wait to see if contracted players are snapped up by clubs with more "clout". 50 days to go before pre-season. We shall see.

We can only hope the more involved the Ogdens get in running the club that they get the bug and loosten the purse strings. The wealth is there - its just how much they are prepared to invest/lose.

Incoming ..... another club teaser on 04:38 - Jun 3 by TalkingSutty | That would mean a reduction in play off places which gives clubs less chance of getting out of the league and more dead rubber games for clubs near the end of the season. The point gap to the second place team is an irrelevance, every club knew at the start of the season that automatic promotion could only be achieved by winning the league. York might feel hard done by but the rules of the competition are the same for all clubs. Oldham thoroughly deserved their promotion via the play offs, the manager believed they could win them and so did their fans. Three promotion spots or even four would be preferable. Yes more clubs are involved, and yes if you are mid table with 10 games to go you still have an outside chance of getting that 7th spot. I just dont think the format works with 6 teams involved and 2 teams having 2 weeks off. Certainly this season and last York and Barnet finished 2nd and lost their home games 0-3 and 0-4 to Oldham and Solihull. It works in the EFL because 2 or 3 go up automatic so its logical to go down as far as 6th and 7th for the last play off place. In the National League with just 1 going up automatic they should just have 2nd,3rd 4th and 5th in the play offs - it just works easier and its fairer as a format.

Depends how you look at it, i prefer to have a increased number of play off spots, even more so when there is only one automatic promotion spot. It keeps the league alive for longer and makes it more interesting. I dont think it's unfair that York didn't get promoted, they didn't win the league and failed to turn up for their home play off game. They viewed the extended rest between games as a positive. If the National League announced that next season they are reducing the number of play off spots i think there would be a uproar amongst all the clubs, including York and ourselves. In a ideal world it would be three or four promotion places though. [Post edited 3 Jun 15:13]

re: platt lane. did we not end the season at FC of manchester, if so how did the facilities at PL really help us. as for the 'wealth, and purse strings'. the Ogdens are operating on a self-sustainable model- lets not forget that they are a charity and not like oldhams millionaire 'saviour', and have therefore already started the ball rolling. its upto the town to increase the revenue and therefore 'clout' of the club. and if i may go back to the thugs down the road, the weekend's i paper had a very interesting page on their chairman, including mention of a £5 million 'grant' as part of the levelling up that was supposed to be nationwide. one last thing- the bbc have a snip of their chairman singing. WTF? if anyone looked more like his bottle-wielding 'fans' I don't know who it is. MRGA.

There's supposedly a '3Up' campaign where the NL are lobbying the EFL for another promotion place - I read an article a while back that said they were pushing for it to be discussed at the EFL AGM in June. If it was approved it's likely it would be 3rd - 6th in the playoffs. Hopefully we can sign a solid keeper, tenacious midfielder and a prolific striker this month then we might not need to worry about it.

If the game plan is to constantly keep strengthening the first team every summer then I'm sure we will get back into the EFL. The three year plan might need to run alongside the five year sustainability plan though. Maybe the Ogdens might consider sourcing investors who can work alongside them, extra finances that could fast track first team recruitment. Money does talk in this league. There is also the possibility of the National League becoming the EFL 3, it has been mentioned. [Post edited 3 Jun 16:08]

I read an article somewhere that gave the impression that most of the EFL teams are in favour of the 3 UP system, which considering the number of former EFL teams in the NL may be no surprised to many. I agree, we need a good GK, a good CD, a tough tackling midfielder and two big strikers (who don't get forced off the ball with ease, like what happened with Mitchell and can score!) and for McNulty to learn from his mistakes. I think we have the potential to be a play off and even a promotion team, but the right recruitment is essential.

Whats wrong with him singing? He's a fan isnt he who's just seen his club win a Wembley final to get promoted back into the EFL. We can only dream of a day like that.

Frank seems like a fantastic fella to me, very eccentric but you don't get to be a multi millionaire by being a fool. I dont begrudge Latics their promotion neither, they deserved to win the play offs. Both Oldham and Rochdale have struck gold with our owners and that's irrespective of whether we return back to the EFL in the near future or not. We're very lucky.
