Fifa Club World Cup 16:25 - Jun 4 with 8856 viewsWhiterockin

Starts in 11 days. Are you interested or not. Personally I intend to watch the odd game and would like a European team to win. It will be interesting to see how the clubs from different continents compare particularly Europe and South America.

Has this been a success anywhere? I don’t think it could have gone down any worse in the UK

Chelsea to win it and nobody will care apart from Chelsea supporters. How often does an ex player score against you.

Brilliant for the winners I agree.

Outside of that, massive flop surely. Nobody seems interested

Lots of posters saying players should have long summer breaks. No games from early May to early August.

I don't get it. I mean every worker gets 4 weeks off a year. Basically a month.

Why should soccer players get three months off.

There are plenty of workers out there. Coal miners, construction workers etc etc who have tough physical jobs every day and only get 20 days hols. And, do those jobs well beyond their 30's

What is this belief system that soccer players should get 3 months?

Because it has been proved that if an athlete's body does not have enough recovery time in will break down. For footballers it is normally when they are needed the most, late in the following season.

Us ordinary workers have physical break downs all the time, we see doctors have operations and most have to keep slogging away until 67 even when they have numerous health concerns but footballers are different? Why do they deserve such deification?

This club world cup, the propaganda begins,

The World Club Cup is an excellent concept and no doubt it’ll be one of the biggest things in football with gradual progression. But it needs to ensure that the best teams are there. After all there’s a good argument to suggest that the best clubs will be better than the best countries. As money can buy success as we have seen, a Saudi club in time for example could become the best in the world.

It’s interesting to see the different styles, standards and expectation from around the world playing against each other competitively and with big money at stake. The World Cup for countries is one of the biggest sporting events in the world alongside the Olympics. It wasnt like that when it started around 100 years ago. The World Club Cup can rival that in time. When the best teams are there and it gathers momentum it’ll happen. People tend not to like change. With an inability and/ or unwillingness to think outside the box consequently.

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

I wonder what the TV viewing figures are. Because without the obscene amount of money Dazn put in the teams wouldn't have gone. Plus it has been free to watch for those interested. Can this business model be repeated.

Chelsea have received over £80 million so far could end up at over £90 million if they win it Delap and Pedro paid for

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
Poll: Happy to see Martin go

My point is Dazn paid $1Billon and charged nothing to view. I don't know the viewing figures which could determine sponsorship revenue. Is this business model sustainable for the next event. As someone interested in football and living in the UK I think not, especially listening to what others say. Incidentally I originally that i would watch a couple of matches, I've watched none.

I haven’t watched any of it and it doesn’t interest me at all, however I think if they persevere with it I can see a future where the Saudi League and World club championship will be the 2 biggest competitions. Money talks . What they don’t have is history but from what I see youngsters are more interested in celebrities than history and if the Saudi league signs all the World stars I can see the premier league being weakened. Nothing lasts forever and the Premier league has been the richest (and best?) league for 20 years but I can see a near future where that dominance reduces. The big clubs are owned by Americans or other billionaires and they want to play the other big clubs (possible European league ??) the Saudis want to be the number 1league (unlimited resources so could happen) The world club championship becomes the biggest tournament. It’s a future I don’t personally like but I feel that this is the way sport is going.

Players want to play for the big clubs in the Champions League, that's why clubs dropping out of the league find it difficult to recruit the really top players. Until the Saudi league can match the Champions League for competition they won't get the best players in their prime. There is a reason three out of the last four clubs in the Club World Cup were European, its because it's the world's top competition and everyone wants to play in it. As long as the Club World Cup allows minnows in it will hold no real value with the majority of football supporters.
