Paul Abbandonato 15:31 - Jun 10 with 4631 views | KeithHaynes | Had a few DM’s on Twitter. Sometimes it’s better to know someone properly. Both Phil Sumbler and I were given a huge leg up during our early writing careers by Paul. He has only ever been approachable and helpful. He published numerous one and two page features on our early books for those that remember Wales on Sunday. We go back some years. And still chat today. Yes, of course we can understand the animosity at times between those that follow the Swans and Cardiff, but some of it directed to Paul is shocking. It’s a Swansea v Cardiff thing, and indeed the same can be said for Lee Trundle who has a remarkable style on social media which clearly opens him up for responses. You can have your own views of course, but keep them clean, nobody who has been helped in life needs to be drawn into a social media war. And all because he openly follows another team. For those who love a good read check out his books on Nigel Owens, Barry John and Gary Speed.

One of the board of directors at Haverfordwest County is a big Orient fan, he’s looking forward to it too. Reckons Cardiff are going to find it hard next season.

Its his lack of impartiality is the main reason why he gets so much grief ,fine its well known he supports CFC but as a chief editor you'd think when reporting that his biases would be subdued at the very least.

I don't think anyone really cares about his impartiality. It's his obvious trolling that sets people off. Like Pencs said, tagging in every club Malcolm Elias worked for except us is just a cheap way to generate heat. He knew precisely what he was doing and got the reaction he wanted. He could end a lot of the stick he gets quite easily, but I'd be surprised if he did. [Post edited 10 Jun 19:13]

That looked bad, but was jumped on by those on Twitter who love a scrap without physicality. No idea why that went out as it did. I’ll ask him one day. My point was as per the OP really, but yes could do better.

one theory: he may not have been able to tag Swansea into his tweet (re the tribute) if the club have blocked him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

ask him now if he is in contact. He could have easily corrected the tweet / or added another tweet saying it was a mistake. Most Swans fans would have understood. His silence/ignoring the issue does not help the matter at all.

It’s not my place to do that, I will one day when we speak, but all conversations I have are in confidence. To be honest I’m not getting embroiled in all that, never been a middle man for anyone. Just putting a point forwards for clarification at the start. I will leave that sort of thing to ACAS 😉

Look at the Birmingham mail - they seem to cover all their local teams fairly without such blatant bias. It makes him and the Western Mail look so small minded and Cardiff as an aspiring big city look very parochial like a valleys village cussing their nearest neighbours for no intelligible reason. An academic Cardiff supporting mate of mine once said that the Evening Post was a proper journalistic newspaper compared to the WM. Typically like everything else Cardiff the WM took it and ruined it as per Glamorgan Cricket and obviously now with the rugby (Ospreys and Scarlett’s) here.

Not forgetting the number of times they mention just to make a point “the Welsh capital” as if they have a set quota to fulfil! They think it bothers us, well I couldn’t give a #£&* genuinely and almost feel sorry that they are so insecure. I said almost!

All this does is just cause more division between Cardiff and Swansea (as if there wasn’t enough already). The stronger together bollux is just that - I don’t think I’ll ever go to watch wales again.

There surely can’t be another club anywhere in the UK where the media coverage is so divorced from the reality. I know he probably does it to appeal to the Cardiff audience, who probably lap up being constantly reminded that they are the Capital City club and that they are a sleeping giant with a large and passionate fan base and huge potential. It’s rare to read an article about them without some or all of the above being mentioned, and he is the biggest culprit. They all seem desperate as a club to be relevant whereas they are not, and haven’t been for 60 years plus and arguably longer than that again. His latest line is around this “generational crop of talent” that they supposedly have but he doesn’t contextualise it by saying “by Cardiff standards” as it feeds into the ongoing Cardiff are huge narrative. The reality is of course that Kevin De Bruyne is an example of a generational talent not R Colwill though he and Wales would benefit from him moving to a club who can develop him properly. And the likes of Colwill probably are hindered rather than helped by the likes of PA constantly blowing smoke up their backsides. [Post edited 12 Jun 13:15]

Wales’ Capital City Club 🤣 The one in the third division along with Englands capital city club Leyton Orient . It’s so needy it’s cringeworthy

Indeed. We're long past the point where we can pretend that he's not doing it deliberately. Just a bit of a dickhead searching for attention.

Best thing that happened to JM was him being made to report on our play off final. You should have heard his Tuesday lunchtime phone in subject - “Is Swansea big enough to sustain Premier League football? Well he was almost right - we could only do it for 7 seasons 🤣
