Are we all just politicians ? 09:24 - Jun 13 with 550 views | johnlangy | From comments on this forum it appears the most despised group of people in this country are politicians. I find it difficult to argue against that to be honest. What almost always happens with politicians of every party is that they will pick and choose facts and figures that support the argument they are making while ignoring other perfectly legitimate facts and figures that don't support their argument. That is exactly what happens on this forum. So why criticize politicians for doing something you actually do yourself. I just read a great post from JACKMANANDBOY on the '£445 million for rail investment in Wales'. This is what he posted' 'I heard an interview about human psychology and entrenched opinions this week, apparently it is usually the case that people with entrenched opinions will become attached to them the more substantial the evidence is to disprove their opinion. The need to be right will outweigh the need to understand.'
Are we all just politicians ? on 11:10 - Jun 13 with 491 views | trampie | I've posted on and off for a good many years now on different message boards although I tend to stick to one messageboard at a time and I would say that is very true, I used to be a b*gger for checking things before I posted so my facts were nearly always correct, I have got into debates with different people on different messageboards that apparently have good jobs and apparently are well educated but they will lie, the majority of these people will lie, I know they are lying, they know they are lying, on a personal level I could not do that if I had said something that as a matter of fact was wrong and it was shown to me, I would hold my hands up but most people particularly the ones that take debates seriously will deliberately lie and not admit they are wrong, I'm not talking about opinions but something that is a matter of fact. It's sad but it's unfortunately true, is it something to do with the way people are brought up ? Are people brought up being told its wrong to lie ?, lying is so prevalent in today's society that I'm not sure that they are and I'm not talking about little white lies to protect somebodies feelings either.

Are we all just politicians ? on 14:33 - Jun 13 with 439 views | JACKMANANDBOY | The OP references this forum. First of all it's run for a charity so I try to be respectful of that fact. As a football forum it's not meant to be a place of exacting rigourous debate. I try to provide some alternative perspectives. I use this one after checking what the football news is, it is good on here with a lot of effort going in from the guys who do the football research. There are posts which are obviously incorrect and some people use it to to express their opinions which is fine, most posters seem smart enough to distinguish between opinion, story, research and evidence.

Are we all just politicians ? on 15:11 - Jun 13 with 422 views | Scotia | I don't think there is any worse occupation for cherry picking and misrepresenting facts than journalists. They've been doing it for years and I don't understand how they get away with it. It's getting worse with the creations of "news" channels like GB News, Talk TV and youtube bloggers. It's those that have led to and reinforce the entrenched opinions that people display on here. I don't understand how people feel comfortable debating a topic they have no direct experince or a deep and independent understanding of - a prime example of this are those asylum seekers arriving by boat. They appear on the media almost every day, but statistically make a very small percentage of immigrants. They aren't the reason this country is in a crap state. There is a reason why the media make a big deal of the 7% of asylum seekers but not the 93% of migrants we've invited here, it's because their political "side" caused the overarching problem so they need to find someone else to blame. I've also been called, on this forum, a child groomer for taking my daughter to a pride fesstival by someone who openly admitted they've never been to one. A clear example of an entrenched view they can only have got from some kind of media. The worst is yet to come unfortunately.

Its the misuse of taxpayers money that causes the issues and annoyance, when that money could be used to help other things that are crying out for more money, to many to list obviously.

Are we all just politicians ? on 18:06 - Jun 13 with 366 views | SullutaCreturned | I think the main difference between this forum and politicians is people on this forum don't have ALL the facts and (for the most part) don't set out to decieve, we just get it wring sometimes. Politicians have all the facts and choose to omit what hinders their arguements. That is blatant deception, lying. I suppose I could be doing exactly what you say, I'm not sure, I'll let others decide.

A number of politicians have demonstrated that they are unable to understand the facts nad they get things wrong badly due to their incompetence. Didn't the Senedd try/fail to make it law for politicians to tell the truth or something similar?

"The Truth" is a vague concept for some politicians. Witness Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, try to claim that most small boat arrivals are women and children on Question Time when the Home Office figures make it pretty clear that the vast majority are military age males.
