Coffee VVankers thread... 16:21 - Jun 18 with 4670 views | 100percent | In the light of the glorious Jimmy Dunne news and his supposedly poor taste in the coffee stakes, I thought I'd start a thread for us coffee vvankers. I buy all my coffee in bean form at The Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton St. The place oozes history and taste and has IMO the best coffee in the UK. particularly fond of the Organic Bolivian - high roast, strong as an ox. Two double shots in the morning - beans to cup. Difficult to beat. https://algeriancoffeestores.com/ the place is magic....

Coffee VVankers thread... on 13:35 - Jun 19 by robith | Yeah they literally say that on their website: Women make up at least 70% of the coffee industry but are rarely acknowledged. They are the pickers, sorters, the labourers. They are rarely the decision makers or the business owners and when they are, we seldom hear about the amazing hard work these women do. We're here to help change this. The key word in my original post was "owned". |
Delighted to hear their message and agree 100% that we should be made more aware of the work women do around the world. https://www.womenwhofarmtheworld.org/

Coffee VVankers thread... on 16:40 - Jun 18 by ted_hendrix | My Dad was a tea mentalist, It was made In the pot and poured into his mug after the milk. He'd go mad If his tea wasn't made properly, I'm talking late 50's. I remember tea bags being for posh households and me Dad wouldn't have them anywhere near the house. There's a certain smell to coffee shops equalled only by Baker shops. There's a place In Umbria, Italy we used to go and the coffee took an age to make but was worth the wait. Cappuccino anybody? |
The best coffee Mrs R from Afar and I have ever had was at a small, family owned hotel in southern Sardinia. The formidable and inscrutable matriarch who presided over the establishment ran a tight ship and told you what to do and where to sit, but the food was excellent, the prices low and the coffee out of this world, although strictly limited to one cup per person. The best coffee we've had in the UK was at the cafe at River Cottage HQ, near Lyme Regis. I usually start the day with breakfast tea, skimmed milk, no sugar, and have green tea in the early evening, but coffee is my drug of choice. I really rate Lavazza instant coffee but the Siemens bean grinding coffee machine we used to have at work produced fabulous drinks .

Coffee VVankers thread... on 19:41 - Jun 18 by FDC | My filter coffee machine has just given up the ghost so this thread is timely. You've just inspired me to order an aeropress 👍 |
I do love my Aeropress, useful for me as I'm the only coffee drinker in my house so it suits my needs first thing to make a decent quality single cup. Can travel with it too. Plus since I'm just starting out, it wasn't an expensive purchase. As others have said, the James Hoffmann Youtube stuff is great, he has some great brewing techniques for it and links to others he recommends too. Great fun to play with.

I second this. Been ordering regularly from them for years and they do a lot of money off offers and the like. I think they give you points towards a discount on your birthday! But the marketing aside the actual coffee and variety is excellent. I drink a lot of Decaf too and a couple of their blends are lovely. I use a cafetiere but thinking of getting an aero press... Is it worth it? Apparently it makes a superior cuppa.

For a really beautiful and different coffee experience go to somewhere like this place on Goldhawk Road https://www.dafrik.co.uk/ for a jabena coffee ceremony. I was off the coffee for 10 years until I tried it again in Addis Ababa. They don't make it strong, but the taste and smell are something else. The food is amazing too.

A good Twinings English or Irish Breakfast tea, loose leaf, or if you are feeling fancy tea pigs are a good alternative. Fresh water brought to the boil and instantly poured over the tea leaves in the pot. Stand and cover for approx 3 mins then pour through a strainer in to a china cup. No sugar, but if you want some sweetness, a small splash of milk is sufficient. Thank me next time you see me LOL. |
Twining ? Watered down Nat pi%5 good old fashioned English tea is all the needed , never use a teapot as the brew becomes stewed after to long . Next time I see you expect. Swift kick in the nads Mike
