25 million trees ,why?

Because in the eyes of the Senedd trees are more important than free school meals for all children until they leave …far more important than heating allowance for pensioners etc etc.
Look after your own first before giving our cash away.

One minute it's plant more trees the next minute the council want landowners to cut them down/cut limbs off them for encroaching onto lanes/roads but they are not so fast doing the verges that they are responsible for.

The "why not give it to the NHS" always exists and always will unless it is abolished. With that arguement Government would never do anything at all like support the arts of even dare I say it sporting events. In this case "free school meals".

This Uganda thing is good PR for the Senedd. I give money to charities and many of us do. It is something the Senedd can put in brochures while showing around international investors and telling them. "We are real nice caring people".

Look at things holistically. UK is a leader in green enterprises. I am happy to see limited funds go to improve the lives of the poorest of the poor.

You like i choose to which charities we donate. We do not pay tax for that decision to be made for us, we have no right of refusal only through the ballot box, that will come next year.

Why doesn't the Government give me money for my trees ?, as far as I know I could cut them down, say one hundred trees, so shouldn't they give me money for keeping them ?

The arts? Why should tax money go on the opera, something that is mostly a rich persons pasttime?

The Senedd doesn't need good PR for doing this in Africa, it is desperately short of good PR amonsgt the Welsh population.
Investors don't care if a government is caring, they care about subsidies and grants.

I guess when it's 195 countries, being 9th behind such botables as Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland almost counts as being a leader. The Senedd's job is to look after its own people first, they didn't ask the people if we were happy to poay for trees in Uganda. Was it in their manifesto?

I see nothing wrong in ensuring our children get one full meal a day. They are the future of our country which any civilised society would surely nurture.
Rwanda are the main sponsors of Arsenal…all over the hoardings as well as on their shirts. A civilised society according to the sponsors. But are they civilised enough to send illegals to? Apparently not according to our courts. So giving Uganda 25 million trees with the Welsh flag stamped on them achieves what? I’ve no doubt the Ugandans will wonder why we send them trees when we have so many food banks in Wales. It’s all beyond me.

I've not slurred or abused anyone, so don't blame me for your paranoia, whilst on the subject of slurs you have slurred thousands of Swans Fans of which I am one.
But you won't accept your own accountability because you are that arrogant and so far up your own arris that you can't see it.

On top of all that the below makes me wonder why they chose Uganda, it doesn't sound like a deserving place,

Laws Targeting Persons on the Basis of Sexual Orientation
The 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act (AHA) applies to both visitors and residents of Uganda. The AHA increases the danger for persons who may be targeted on the basis of their sexual orientation, those seen as or perceived to be lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and those accused of “promoting homosexuality.” They could face fines, imprisonment, or the death penalty and may also face harassment, violence, or attacks by vigilantes or mobs. Assault and harassment cases linked to support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons have happened across the country.

It's not a safe place to viit according to the foreign office, for anybody, not just homosexuals.

So why did they get our money? If we had to do it there must have been somewhere better, more deserving?

According to our Court Illegals must expect nothing less than 3 star hotels with full board and lodge. Accommodation made for British workers or RAF staff was deemed inadequate by the courts. Lawyers are big beneficiaries of asylum seekers. One year to assess another years after appeal. Kerching.

Rwanda is making rapid progress and increasing the wealth of its citizens through western style policies. Good for us good for th m bad for Russia and China.

Uganda needs education and development as other posters have pointed out it is not currently ideal place to live. Planting trees is part of this educational and development. What we are seeing in this thread is an Anglo leaning distaste for Welsh initiatives. The sort of things preserved for Royalty in the past.

It is good Cymru is involved in movements to educate and develop Uganda. Better than the council piss ups as they visited twin towns in Europe in the past.

I sense it grinds the gears of many to see Cymru doing good with a relatively small budget. The " we know what we are club". Small town wimps with small town perspectives. The Trust represents this gormless movement.. £1.3m and no clue.. Some lovely £500 murals are a start at least.

I would prefer some trees.

As I said last year when we were debating Rwanda, it was (and is) the WHO's poster child when it comes to a healthcare system that covers the whole population.

https://www.afro.who.int/news/rwanda-beacon-universal-health-coverage-africa

But while one UN body (WHO) lauded Rwanda, it suited another - UNHCR - to give our Supreme Court a highly negative assessment, despite sending some of its own refugees there and publishing an in-country situation report that was much more positive about the services available there. It is true that tension between Rwanda and Congo is a negative, but according to TV News today a new treaty has smoothed that over. The truth is probably that UNHCR would oppose transfers of asylum seekers from Europe or the USA to any African country. It wouldn't surprise me to see another developed country take advantage of our Rwanda investment. I still think dropping that plan was one of Labour's big mistakes.

People playing politics sadly. "Smash the gangs" yeah right. There is no will for hard policing in France.

I suspect a law firm scam. Every person in the boats are worth a few grand each to lawyers. The country is run by lawyer who live in gates communities.

The Rwanda threat actually y worked before anyone went there. Asylum seekers in Great Britain were leggings it to the Irish Republic who made a request to end the Rwanda scheme.
