Chris Coghlan - MP and his local Priest actually playing God 18:03 - Jun 30 with 1170 viewsDale_4_Life

Dorking MP Chris Coghlan denied communion because he voted in favour of assisted dying in the commons vote.

A disgrace in my book - Father Ian Vane the priest at St Josephs Catholic Church in Dorking should be suspended until the church makes some pretty big decisions on its stance on this matter.

Chris Coughlan will not be the only catholic who thinks with all safeguarding in place terminally ill people should if they so wish end there life with dignity and without agonizing pain.

The Priest presumably acted with his conscience and deemed the MP unfit or unworthy to receive communion. I'm not Catholic, but life is sacrosanct.

If Parliament can provide a proper legal framework, together with the medical profession, then surely it is right to allow terminally ill people to die at their own choosing, provided that the patient is fully cognisant of the situation and has capacity to make that decision for themselves.

It is surely an act of compassion to allow suffering to end and death to arrive pain free. It happens with much loved and treasured animals without a second thought.

The teachings of the Catholic Church is clear on the matter and why should they change their teachings to comply with the the woke liberal left. I accept that the Vatican stance on this may be deemed outdated and the priest should not have not condemned the MP in his sermons. I believe the C of E, the Muslim Council and the Catholic Church in England have all been opposed to the assisted dying bill and the abortion bill due to different concerns. To remove the Holy Communication from a Catholic is a more debatable issue and normally is a decision you would expect to be made by a senior member of the church.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with the "woke liberal left"

I'm about as far removed from that particular temporary cultural grouping as it's possible to be, yet i support the principle of assisted dying - with all the necessary safeguards, which is the crux of the matter, in place - and no-one, least of all the state or Hypocrisy Central, aka the Catholic Church, is going to tell me whether i've a right to determine my own ending or not if entering the final stages of a terminal illness, or have anyone prosecuted should they assist me with my wish

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

And the church don't seem to understand why less than 12% of the population are church goers. They just don't seem relevant to most people's lives in 2025.
