I havent been on here as much in the past couple of weeks as I have been driving around the Peloponnese in Greece to view their historical sites.
1. I have been eaten alive by all sorts of insects, if I show my legs in public people will step back thinking I have a form of leprosy.
2. It was hot over there, mostly 34-38 degrees during the day and 30 ish when the sun went down
3. It is amazing how they built all these great cities like Sparta, Mycenae, Olympia, Epidaurus and a host of others we have never heard of around 4- 5,000 years ago in Stone usually on a massive hill when we were still living in mud huts here. However I was disappointed to see that Argos did not have the remains of a 4,000 year old super store.
4. The Greeks are very friendly people and there isn't the need to haggle over everything you buy, they live on a different timescale to us and don't go out till about 9-10 at night.
5. They are manic drivers who seem to think that the road signings showing a speed is a minimum and not the maximum, the roads in the Peloponnese at least are very rural and winding , only one dual carriageway and the rest like driving through the New Forest with mountains, no room for error or you are in a field or off a cliff. |  |

You cant compare Skara Brae to any of the sites I have mentioned, as you will know Skara Brae is a collection of 10 small stone houses built into the ground, so essentially mud huts lined with stone.
Given the date they were built amazing for the time
Epidaurus has a 20,000 capacity theatre built of stone still in use today whilst in some parts of England we are still watching football in wooden stands | |

As you can see from the pic they are both earth and stone.

"The houses used earth sheltering: built sunk in the ground, into mounds of prehistoric domestic waste known as middens. This provided the houses with stability and also acted as insulation against Orkney's harsh winter climate"
So essentially they are hollowed out from mounds of earth and then lined with stone, so they were dug out not built.
So are they stone buildings or mud huts, perhaps we can compare them to toys houses where we have an outer structure usually made of brick and an inner lining of that brick usually plaster , do we live in plaster buildings or brick buildings, perhaps a question not answerable in PO postcodes.
Their use of stone suggests that in 3,000 BC they are ahead of Fratton Park in the evolution of architecture, but not St Mary's.
