That's what I suspect too. People who make great emphasis on being honest and open and loving their customers etc. are usually over-compensating for my experience.

Wonder which player , obv one the fans like will have signed a new long term deal just before the fans forum ?

im going saito

and just in case the forum does go totally pete tong he will keep charlie austin coming back in some fashion to further sweeten the deal to be announced as a deal just signed till the end ,

and the masses will bow at the feet of his greatness and all is good in the world again !

I get the idea in theory. Barcelona in the 2010s being a great example. You have a set of principles that everyone aligns to, emphasis on retaining possession, movement etc. Everyone at the club from the age of 8 starts playing that way so that when they break into the first team it's seamless. That's a very attractive model.

It does get somewhat broken by the idea that QPR haven't exactly been a conveyor belt of talent from the youth academy and what 98% (?) of our appearances over the last decade have been from people we've signed from other teams, so it's a bit moot. I guess the same idea is that we (should) only hire managers who have similar philosophies to each other in terms of the way they want their teams to play, so you don't have a new guy coming in thinking "fck this lot I need a bunch of players with different skill sets"

Which of course in true QPR fashion, we've yoyo'd back and forth on over the years and has been a major source of our problems, including financial

So I kind of get it, but I'm just not convinced that it works here. And to your point it should be the principles, rather than the specific formation.

Agree with the theory, we just have to accept it’s not an overnight switch. Seems to me they are completely re-jigging the DS to move towards this model but it will take time to get there - you can’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

At least we don’t seem to be dumping our ‘projects’ each year and resurfacing with new ones. We seem to be sticking to this one. The cup win by the DS does help of course.

I’m more than happy to see us stick to this model for a few years more and see how it works out.

It’s far better than career apprentices playing footie every week drawing a fairly decent wage and achieving nothing as a pro footballer with all the club tries to provide for them.

I agree with this. Things seem to be changing and it does look like we have finally realised that there is more to changing things than saying "we have a four year plan".

Not everything is perfect but I feel we will see the benefits but maybe not for a couple of years.

I feel like the club is a lot less "knee jerk" than it was and the number of signings going into the development squad is a real positive. Hopefully, a few of them will kick-on in the next couple of years!

I agree with your points, but the key word you have to use is 'seems', as we all continue to speculate on the plan based on the actions we're seeing the club take.

This forum is another positive step to opening the communication with fans, but I'd love to see them open it with a 20min presentation, sharing the vision, plan and priorities for the club, both short and long term.

What is the 10 year goal, and will the current owners be here to deliver it or are they looking for new investment/buyers.

What is the plan for key areas such as the ground, financial stability, young player development, player recruitment, ambitions for category 1 status, fan engagement, amongst any others, and what are the key priorities over the short term that will put the foundations in place to deliver them and make this a better club in the future.

Some details they clearly won't be able to share, but they can definitely give everyone a clear idea of what they want to achieve and also what isn't a priority.

If they really are serious about opening up and making all the positive steps they're suggesting, share it.

They do this and they have my full respect, if they can't and this ends up being a Q&A on toilets and price of burgers, then don't waste our time.

I'd love to hear all that too but I suspect that there would be a huge gap between what the goals are and the level of detail we all want to hear.

Is there any owner of any football club who can say hand on heart they will still be there in ten years time? I doubt it.

From what I've read the "goals" seem (sorry to use that word again 😉) as specific as they can be. Develop younger players for future profit, stay financially stable etc etc.

It is the baby steps towards those goals that are more important to me (and just me, everyone is different).
We have a younger squad with more potential "sell on" value
We are investing more in the next generation of players
We are making moves to increasing the stadium size
We are investing more in the coaching structure of the club
We are not lurching from one style to another when we change our manager every few months

Of course there's plenty of things that could still be done better but my view is that, in general, things are heading in the right direction but it will take time.

Maybe....but given the room will be full of Season Ticket Holders and Members who plough £'000's into the club every year, I believe they have a right to a fairly detailed insight into the club strategy and business priorities in the short and long term.

Its not a lot to ask, businesses around the world share this with their customers every year, and I believe we deserve to be treated in the same way.

As the saying goes , We Cant Handle the truth .
wont happen and with our present way of treating the fans as something whihc dont matter as they are mugs and will keep giving us our hard earned cash every season why would they ?
hes read the room sign loads of youngsters ,
hopefully one turns out to be decent and we can sell for millions . downside of that is a weak squadand chucking kids in who might have been ok but for not being chucked in and hoping they swim. we tried this last season and it wasnt pretty

Again I agree and maybe it's just the 10 year timescale that seemed excessive.

If our long term goals are a few bullet points then I'd be happy with that and these fan forums could be a way to let us know what is on the cards in the next year.

Obviously, some things would be better not being in the public domain but I'm sure there would be some information that could be shared.

Although, I still think there would be a big gap between what we want to hear and what is available to be shared.
