Varane - Essential we keep this man !! 20:04 - Jul 19 with 3828 views | numptydumpty | Seems to have missed the entire pre season jaunt to sunnier climes !! Was meant to be joining up in France after recuperating from an injury setback. Didn't play in the Toulouse game. Otherwise concerned he is in talks elsewhere. He improved last season and for me, he potentially has the highest ceiling in terms of playing to a much higher standard on a regular basis. For me, we absolutely need this player available for ourselves all season. I think he could go for significant money at the end offhis season, but could be a crucial element in our 'so called' engine room, this season ahead. Hoping this non appearance on tour is indeed actually just because of injuries. Was he in France though - anyone see him there ?? [Post edited 19 Jul 20:06]

I like him and hope he stays, but I think part of it is that out of all the signings we made last season, he was the one who - wasn't crocked most of the season - generally looked decent, willing and able to cope with the Championship physical stuff - is actually ours, not on loan. That buys you quite a bit of credit in a season like last year, if everyone else had fired people would probably be a lot more "meh". Personally I think Field is more important but TBH the "not a guaranteed starter" thing doesn't weigh much with me - it's a squad game, we need players who can step in and be reliable even if they aren't first choice every week.

And a lot of people can get by on two out of three.

Seriously? If fit, he gets in ahead of Field. And if we play 4-2-3-1, there are no credible alternatives to those 2 in the current squad.

Varane - Essential we keep this man !! on 18:40 - Jul 20 by terryb | You're ruling out Kelman then? |
Kelman cannot play number 9, as he cannot hold the ball up like Celar. There is a case to start Kelman instead of Celar if Frey is injured. Last season proved that this team needs a hold-up player; we got away with it as we played some bad teams like Cardiff and Oxford. But we need a proper number 9, and Frey cannot last 3 games in a row, week in and week out. I still like the idea of playing Madsen up front as he can lay the ball off with great 10-yard passes, can he hold up the ball? We won't know unless we play him there. It might also force him to head it as well. And we won't have to worry about Madsen getting up and down the pitch as he can hang around one half this way.
