pre-season injuries 22:58 - Jul 20 with 1991 viewsstainrods_elbow

Is this normal to have 5/6 players out when they've hardly even played any pre-season minutes? It seemns like the story of our club right now.

It worries and wearies me to find Frey (surprise surprise) and the sensitive, possibly skilful, weakling Madsen among the walking wounded again and again. Ditto Dembele, who played so little last season he should have be put on an appearance-related retainer. For me, the first two aren't good enough and aren't fit enough, while Dembele still has a lot to prove and, obviously, needs to stay fit enough to do so this season.

It's why the news from David Mc that Frey may be resigned on a longer contract is less than music to my ears. I might just about have been OK with his extra year being triggered, but no more than that. He's a squad player at best for me if we want to drag ourselves above the heady heights of 16th.

Thoughts?

None of these injuries sound too serious to be honest but after the last few seasons I take your point. I'd hope that perhaps with Michael Main and Ben Williams (in the house finally) that these injuries won't escalate to the levels they have. I do wonder though if some of these guys over train and whether there needs to be more thought into how you keep certain players fit but not wrecked before each game?

Never knowingly right.

I'm not too worried about these injuries, so long as we have got cover, which we have for Madsen and Dembele - less so for Frey and Varane.

But I don't want to see us loaning out our youngsters who are on the fringes (Tuck, Sutton, Esquerdinha etc.) on the grounds that we have a record of always having 4 or 5 players injured at any time.

Keep those players in a squad of 25 with at least two players in every position and I think we will be OK, if the injuries are shared around the team.

What worries me as well is having a surfeit of younger players as 'cover' when we really need to be bedding them in gently (and possibly loaning them out - subject to, uh, cover). Do we have a credible 'nucleus' of 8-10 starters, who can play, know the division, will lock the back door and get us goals? We'll know, of course, by November, but right now the jury is out.

A bit harsh on Dembele who got absolutely clattered by the French in the last game.

The trouble with injuries during pre season is that players affected seem to play catch up with their match fitness at the start of the season.

We will see how the season goes as to injuries. Hopefully much better than last season.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Couldn't be much worse than last season. It was like watching the opening of an episode of Casualty at times, guessing who was going to be struck down with calf strain / hamstring / galloping hemorrhoids / crocodile bite / asteroid strike / creeping sense of unease / rabies etc

I choose to be optimistic. Not basing it on anything specific, simply haven't had the wind knocked out of me yet. UR's

I said on another thread that I reckon Dembele will spend most of his QPR career in The Matty Rose Rest Suite.
No doubt as his Contract runs down we'll see an amazing extended run of games where he's in dazzling form.

His home debut versus, I recall, Plymouth was impressive; but, since then, done little to impress for me.

Disagree with the OP view on Frey.
Really like him and the only thing missing for him is remaining injury free. He does put himself about so with that comes injuries. I think he's vital to us at times.
If we do go with an attacking pair this season I reckon he'll bag a decent return of goals.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Caution and some protection of potentially saleable assets.

If you think (like the club) that you can possibly sell Varane and Kelman, why risk them getting injured in a friendly.

I know Kelman got some recent minutes but Varane not travelling may be an indicator that negotiations are taking place and it’s safer to ask him to stay at home to avoid a similar injury that Dembele picked up.

I don’t know how the negotiations work in football, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the clubs have a pre-agreement to keep the player in question on ice whilst they are taking place.

Be interested to see if Varane plays any part in the UK games and/or training videos.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?
