No pre- match hospitality this season. 16:19 - Jul 21 with 1973 views | TalkingSutty | In view of the above can anybody recommend pubs that do good food around Norden and Bamford and are open Saturday lunchtime, preferably decent beer also. I'm assuming if there is renovation on the main stand and the Ratcliffe planned then pre match hospitality/ sit down meal will eventually return Thanks. . [Post edited 21 Jul 16:32]

Just want something pre match, a sit down meal etc maybe three or four times during the season. We all have season tickets so will be watching the games.

The Grapes was decent last time we went in, decent food and beer. It’s 12 months or so since last there though…

Sadly The Grapes has changed hands. Whilst it isn't too bad it is not as good as it was for food. The Hare and Hounds in Bamford is a decent pub for beer and homemade pub grub. Fine dining it is not, but it is good value.

One of our crew made enquiries and was told there are no hospitality packages this seaaon. I believe you can buy a pass for the upstairs 1907 bar and then there will be hot food/ pie etc for sale. A maximin of 200 passes sold for each game. Not sure why but hopefully hospitality will return if or when there is a refurb. Not sure how the pass for the lounge works if you have season tickets for other areas of the ground, apart from the main stand. It means fans in two thirds of the stadium can't access this facility, well not during half time. Figures will have been crunched and it probably works out easier for the club to do it this way. Our table of ten probably spent aporoaching £1000 in total for everything, including wine for the table and drink all day, draw tickets etc for each hospitality hame we chose. If you could fill ten tables every game with a similar number that would be roughly £250K/ season. Others still have access to the bar and also spend. Maybe its more profitable the way they have decided to do it though which is fair enough. The reason we started to do these hospitality games was to put some more money into the club and enjoy ourselves in the process. Not sure of the reasoning but the place is looking very tired so maybe thats also a factor. [Post edited 21 Jul 21:16]

Your last line is precisely why I do it too. The fact that they’d really nailed the offering last season was a huge bonus. Two family members attended for the first time and were impressed with a desire to return for the same experience this season. I know there was an abundance of similar feedback from others who’d taken a package. Personally, I think it’s a poor decision to cease it this season (that’s yet to be communicated) and I can’t imagine there are many clubs our size that don’t offer pre-match hospitality. As to the new solution, that room is going to feel extremely cosy with anything approaching 200 people in too, which will not make for a great experience. I’d be keen to hear the reasoning when the club decides to formally announce the decision.

The carvery meal was top notch last season, which elevated the hospitality package. The £5 charge to enter a bar in order to spend your money at a non league football club takes some justifying. Your first pint is costing you over £10 for what? The surroundings arent exclusive and in my experience the bar is never near full. The £5 charge is just another barrier to deter people from spending their money, same as the decision to withdraw the matchday hospitality. Its backwards thinking, they should be doing everything in their power to fill the bar before kick off, at half time and at full time. We have CAB, we have the Trust, we have a Trust Director...nobody even thinks of consulting the customers for their feedback or even explaining the decision making. Withdrawing the matchday hospitality has saved me about £450 this season for me and my lad and i wont pay £5 to go into a bar anywhere. If the charge is to control numbers then just issue free tokens on a first come basis. Why is there even a charge, what are you getting for that money? I had a drink at half time during the Grimsby friendly in the bar and it's really showing its age now unfortunately. I heard a while ago there are plans to upgrade the stand but it seems to have gone quiet on that front. Hopefully there will be some positive news soon. [Post edited 22 Jul 6:57]

No pre- match hospitality this season. on 09:12 - Jul 22 with 796 views | Daleaholic | Off the top of my head... Hop & Vine (Food) / Cap & Whippet (Drinks) next door to each other in Norden. Flying Horse in the town centre. Spotland Bridge mills, Millabout & Twisted Mule as mentioned previously. Winston Churchill Harvester tends to be decent food. Hare & Hounds opposite the Churchill also good food.

It was communicated - either at a forum or in one of the end of season updates. I can't remember which. I have used it too before and so it is disappointing to see the change. It was also one of the cheapest hospitality options in the league - and yet they couldn't fill it. They are focussing in the things that make a good return I guess. As for wider comments about the redevelopment of the main stand - they also said they remain focussed on options to improve the use of Spotland 7 days a week and that means significant investment is needed. They also said that they had looked at building a new stadium away from Spotland but that option had been discounted. So their focus is now on investment in Spotland and would share plans with us when they had more to say. If it's any consolation, Hornets also make a hospitality offer. I took a Hornets mad relative to a game last season and there was nobody else booked into hospitality. They can't fill it either.
No pre- match hospitality this season. on 10:07 - Jul 22 with 681 views | EllDale | I agree it’s disappointing but suppose I can see the reasoning. If the people who buy bar passes would otherwise have drunk in the Ratcliffe though the club can’t be gaining much in the way of extra revenue. And there’s no admission fee for the Ratcliffe - yet! The only consolation is that I’d intended to bring about ten people to the Halifax game and have the hospitality first so that’s saved a bit of money!

Thanks for that, i thought i had heard something about possible redevelopment and upgrade of the main stand. That's possibly why hospitality has been knocked on the head. Maybe the sale of bar passes will increaae footfall and revenue, we do have people at the club who are now being paid to make those decisions so let's hope it works.

Cheers. I was familiar with the plans to refurb or even move away from Spotland, but I must have missed the announcement regarding the discontinuation of hospitality. As I say, I feel it's a bit of an own goal, but the club will know best if it will ultimately be worth doing from a financial standpoint.
