You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

But it's not sustainable. Very few of the countries that have better pensions are an a worse economic situation than the UK or don't have other benefits such as a fully funded state healthcare system.

Strange that you object to the triple lock for pensioners who've probably contributed to the health wealth and security of this country over many years but are quite happy to see boat loads of chancers coming here and pay nothing nor ever have into our welfare system but take out more in a week than a pensioner gets in a month. Never voted Labour ,my arse.

No doubt about what you say but when is ever enough, the basic pay for a junior doctor is not great by any stretch but there's are a few add ons which need to be included such as overtime rates, unsocial hours payments a generous pension etc which before anyone shoots me down shouldn't be a basis of living standards but it is ,and is for many people in other sectors.
Last years award was never going to be enough to raise the levels where it could be but it was a start and now to come back again although foreseen by many is now seen, again by many, as being pure greed .

No reason to be shot down over that, Boundy.

All reasonable points.

Not happy about it at all, I just understand the actual issues.

I don't object to it, it's great, but we can't afford it.

The way to address the sustainability of the system is not to cut the poorest peoples incomes and push them into poverty with all the associated costs that go with that, its to address inequality in this country, eg take money off the rich and well paid and spread wealth.

I'd rather not spread my wealth only to keep the file and feckless all their lives

You're not being truthful again are you over you having family " high" in the ranks
I would find it hard to believe you would have family in a job which saw miners
Thrashed
Abuse
Clubbed
Battered

And with you being from a mining town

You've been undone. , again

I and many others understand the actual issues so please no more condescending if you don't mind. And yes we can afford it like many other benefits but due to money being spent in the wrong areas such as illegal immigrants ,or paying members of the House of Lords, as another example, £361 per day + other expenses for just signing the attendance book regardless if they stay to carry out "work".
We can't afford a lot of things but money is still spent on them ,trees in Uganda or creating a Nation of Sanctuary here in Wales for those who bypass the system regardless.

I've just seen one of the placards "Why is my assistant earning more than me" I think that is a fair question.

If pensioner's are given a raw deal creating more pensioner poverty then there are associated costs with that, extra health costs, even extra crime costs, housing stock not being maintained, economy drastically effected as pensioner's spend their money in the economy.

I seen some expert arguing that pensioner's should have more state pension as they tend to spend all they have, cafes, hairdressers, food shops, clothes shops, bingo halls, vets, even car makers, can't remember all the examples.
The economists point was if you give middle and high income earners more money then a large proportion of that will be banked as they already have enough to live on but if you give more income to pensioner's that might only have the state pension and possibly some benefits they will spend that money in the economy which helps to keep people employed.
That economist thought it was better for the economy to give poorer/ordinary people more money than people that already have money, no mention of trickle down but it does tie in with trickle down not working.

Doctors in training are training, whereas perhaps the assistant is time served and fully qualified at what they do and are at the top of their pay grade.
These trainee doctors are apprentices, they will go on to earn 6 figure sums annually, I can't see why they expect to have it straight away when they are still learning their trade and are not time served.

Imagine being in a job that's so difficult you have to get maximum grades at A level to get on a medicine degree and then study for a minimum of 7 years for some people to consider you to starting an apprenticeship.

Makes you wonder why anyone would bother.

You clearly don't. I mean no disrespect, stop reading the Mail and watching GB News.

Welfare costs us multiple billions, maintaining the triple lock alone tens of billions. The savings you think we may be able to make run to a couple of hundred million. And most we simply can't make at the moment. It won't scratch the surface.

They are not qualified, whether they are referred to as junior doctors or doctors in training or apprentices they are learning their trade.

Being a doctor is the pinnacle of jobs, but it does not give them the right to demand more money when training.

I'm not sure that going to school is relevant as people in other jobs go to school and further education as well, my wife (who's away) just had the farrier out for one of her dressage horses so I asked him how long is the training to be a farrier and he told me 4 years, my father was an electrician in the mines and although he died when I was young I think he mentioned his training was 4 years.
I'm not directly comparing farriers and sparks when doing their apprenticeships to junior doctors but I bet farrier and sparks money as they go through their training does rise like junior doctors.

The country is struggling these doctors in training are all going to end up millionaires and they are putting people's lives at risk when they are not on the bread line and had a good rise just last year.

They're fully qualified. But becoming experts in keeping people alive, that's a little more important than a horse's hoof.

How do their hourly rates compare?

All going to end up millionaires? That's a nonsense remark, some of them will, some will get nowhere near that.

Now these dressage horses of your wife's...how many and how much did they cost because you sound very well off for a class warrior. Are you actually a champagne socialist?

Maybe you should sell these horses and share the wealth.

When I used to post my views on here people thought I was a low life jealous of success type of person hence my 'communist' views, that was not true, so I had to say a bit more about myself otherwise every post I would make on politics other posters would think I'm envious of people with money blah blah blah, so I thought that needs to be put to bed.

So you now know my 'socialist' leanings are heartfelt and nothing to do with being jealous of others.

No I don't the Welfare bill needs to be massively reduced. Why anyone with anything like £16k in savings needs benefits is beyond me. Tax payer's money is precious and it should look after us first, the bottom line is it doesn't go far enough.

Some people may actually deserve to be millionaires, have you thought of that? I'm happy to contribute to those.

I just checked a farriers hourly rate and it's slightly more than a resident Dr. That's completely absurd.

Says you, the majority of people on a state pension have earned the right to receive that pension, they've probably worked anything from 45 yrs to over 50yrs in some cases and have paid in well over the odds, especially when after 35yrs you actually attain a full stamp, so why should workers have to continue to pay full Ni after those 35yr's you perhaps won't need the state pension because who you work for probably provides a decent pension or even a final salary.

How long do you 16k would last? 16 months at a grand a month and it's gone.

If you own your own home it's irresponsible to go into retirement with only £16K of savings. One major expenditure and you would be looking for government support.
