Had the privilege of seeing the Sex Pistols at Paléo here in Switzerland last night. Glen Matlock still had his QPR and 'Super fuxxing Hoops' flags on his amps I was very pleased to see.
As to the set, it was bloody brilliant. I was very dubious about Frank Carter taking over vocal duties from Lydon but I have to say he was a great fit. It was raining torrentially but even that couldn't put a dampener on a gig I never thought I'd get to see.
I wondered over to another stage afterwards and took in a bit of Queens of the Stone Age who were absolute professionals to a 't' but whose back catalogue can't rival the Pistols, even as much as I like done of their records

First gigs I started going to were at Brunel aged 15. 3 songs by Joy Division before they walked off a good conversation piece to this day. Found out the next day SPOTS played sadly.
Thing is was it a good gig, memorable etc. Gig started late etc. I heard maybe Lydon had his wallet stolen hence Paul Cook just hitting a drum untill returned. Sound not great I heard bouncing around the room etc. Any truths to all this or I was there anecdote's.
Got tickets to see them in DC later this year.

Not that I / we, really cared about sound quality - or come to that, mastery of an instrument, we just wanted the tunes to be loud, fast and vaguely recognizable. Myself, and my mates, did find the students at many of the venues to be total cocks - but later on we discovered that a lot of the regular club crowd were art students or the like, and in fact we working class types, were often, maybe usually on reflection, smaller in number than our middle class chums. Strange times when you think about it - generally speaking, the discos or dance clubs were full of working class kids all dressed up and flashing the cash, while those of a higher social standing were adorned in rags, acting like street urchins, watching bands in filthy dive bar venues. Still, great times, bands, booze, band aids and er...bondage.

That, sir, is blasphemous! No-one can say Never Mind the Bollocks is patchy. Brilliant album.
And I'm certainly not entering a debate about who's better between them and the Clash. I always preferred Strummer's lot to be honest - more substance to them albeit the good songs were spread over a wider span unlike the Pistols who imo distilled everything into just the one album (plus a few on Swindle - have to say Silly Thing remains one of my favourite Pistols tunes).
But regardless, Saturday's set was absolutely class
