The UK's existing deal with France involves paying £480m over 3 years and we can now add the extra cost of "one-in, one-out". That is on top of around £300m paid under earlier deals. Personally I think Rwanda may have had more impact - as the RoI was finding out. | | | |

Rwanda claimed they could only take 1000 anyway. At the absolute minimum rate of the deal with France, Rwanda would have reached capacity within 6 months.

The Rwanda scheme would only have involved 500 at most so I never thought it would do anything much. And if the Tories really thought it may have worked surely they would have waited to call the election. We all knew that they were going to get hammered but if by some chance the scheme turned out to be a success they would have done so much better. So why didn't they wait a while.
And something else re the scheme. Only a few days ago I found out that if an asylum seeker had been sent to Rwanda and that person committed a crime Rwanda could return them.
I wonder how many of them would have stolen a car perhaps. 500 maybe ? | | | |

I never quite understood why we wasted so much time on the Rwanda scheme when there are literally hundreds of uninhabited islands in the British archipelago which could have hosted camps where illegal migrants would have been contained before removal. Hell, we could even have used East Falklands if necessary.
