I agree that imports will be necessary, but I doubt that it is true to say our refineries are incapable of processing any North Sea oil. A figure quoted in 2023 was only around half.

All subsidies for renewable energy should be redirected into an emergency SMR building programme. Nuclear is the cleanest and most reliable form of energy production the UK currently possesses and it's lunacy that we're wasting our time doing almost anything else at the moment.
I would also outlaw building solar farms on agricultural land and require all new buildings to have solar panels on the roof. Houses, supermarkets, industrial buildings, everything. Maybe have a retrofitting scheme to install them on pre-existing facilities.
Energy costs can drive an economy or kill one. Electricity, gas, diesel and petrol all cost too much in the UK at present. Slashing 20p off a litre is one of the smarter things that Reform have suggested and could almost certainly be covered by cutting costs elsewhere. |  |

I don’t think reform will be any good at all. But when you’ve had decades and decades of both the Tories and Labour messing things up and the country seemingly in a state of perpetual managed decline what other options are there? Plaid, the greens etc seem to be much of a muchness. It’s only reform offering anything like an alternative.
