Harlan Perry & Brogan Popham on 20:42 - Aug 11 with 1883 views | ReslovenSwan1 | It is a good thing that four Premier League academies want Swansea players. It is up to the club to sell them the vision of them being better off here rather than one if fifty other hopeful in a bigger club.

I wonder if the lack of progression through to first team football by their peers is a determining factor, plus the money that is available. I know it has been discussed by some of the academy players, there seems to be a glass ceiling where they get in and around the squad but go no further. We really need Cat 1.

Basically yes. There are allowances for academies, women's football and structures amongst other things. It's a no brainer to invest in the academy. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Where’s Jasper these days to tell us why Cat 1 isn’t the golden goose? I always felt bad about downgrading, but I seem to remember being talked around in the end that there wasn’t a great deal of difference between Cat 1 & 2?

Those who are good enough, have been involved. Year after year. There is an idea we're bad at bringing through youngsters. But look at those who've been released and you'll be hard pressed to name more than 1 or 2 who'd have maybe made it here.

Can’t understand why Kyrell Wilson hasn’t had a shot especially in games like last night.

Totally agree about Sputnik, he’s absolutely useless. Wales did more in 29 minutes than that plank did in 60 odd. Scored a goal, did some nice layoffs, through balls, won some headers. What a waste of £2m Vipotnik has been.

Think30 minutes would the least Wales would be expecting given what he and us have seen up top preseason and the first league game and the league Cup game. Will need time to adjust the the championship but on tonight's showing the sooner he is full up to speed the better but we cannot just rely on the one striker. As for the other end of the pitch thought Sam Parker did OK and Kaelan Casey played seemingly within himself so things look a better I defence although I am worried about the issue that Cabango has, one good thing Arther Parker also getting back on the pitch under Sheehan instead of being thrown under the bus as some other managers have done.

Didn't take chances when under pressure and with a bouncing ball up field clearance was his preferred option, when he had time he sometimes brought it down under his control, looked as if he could have brought it down more but brave enough to clear instead of brave enough to take risks as some managers bang on about, taking risks should be left to when we are further park trying to get back into games provided we have sufficient players with pace to cover, not when we are in control of games, good incisive pass helped by good movement helps reduces the risks. Competent performance by him to relieve some of the worries about weaknesses in the back line and strength in depth.

Montague at the fans forum tonight. Montague addresses alleged interest from Spurs and Watford in two of their academy products. "They can sign professional contracts when they come of age. "The timing of those deals is very important. But the fact is that as a Cat 2 academy that clubs can look at your players and poach players. Thast's the reality of the ecosytem of academy football now. "That will naturally happen. The advantage of moving to Cat 1 is you get more money when players are taken. But we'll always be looking to extract the best value for the club." We really need Cat 1.

Totally agree. I was gutted when we downgraded. But I remember jasper saying it wasn’t a big deal and was probably not worth the extra outlay. If Montague is on about it, and Gorringe mentioned about the new investment by Modric and Snoop, going towards certain things…the academy was mentioned first, or at least second. Playing squad was well down the list. Although I’m just going off Phil’s report, not watched the recording yet.

As I recall, Vip came in on a free from a team that went into administration, which allowed players to be able to get out of their contracts. From ChatGPT: Free Transfer Vipotnik became available after his contract with Bordeaux was mutually terminated. This followed Bordeaux’s relegation to the third tier and decision to relinquish their professional status due to financial constraints—leading the club to cancel numerous player contracts. Worst part is that he signed a 4-yr contract with Swans in the summer window of 2024.
