He can do that as a left sided centre back. Varane amd morgan can hold the centre of the pitch. Field can do a job when required but having him anywhere in the opposition half of the pitch is a waste. Hes too slow at receiving the ball and turning play from facing his own goal and then towards the opposition goal. Most of the time he just passes backwards which is the easy option.
I do rate Field but hes a solid cdm and I think a good lcb. Hes a better option than Cook right now. | | | |

Yeah the first one looked like needing more work on how to respond to a breakaway during the 'press', and the answer probably includes words like 'transition' and 'thirds' and 'vertebrae'.
The second was more old fashioned, what with M'bengue dangling his leg out like a tart and Walsh frozen to his line instead of cleaning everything out in front of him.

I could suggest compared to last season where we beat Preston at home, won at Plymouth away and drew away to Watford, whereas this season our results have been worse against all three. On paper these are some of our easier fixtures and not the toughest tests we are likely to face but the results are worse than last season. Of course teams have changed but we can find fault wherever you wish to look.
It is a test tor our patience looking at other clubs and thinking why we don't react as well. We play kids at Plymouth and lose and bring experience back at Watford and still lose. Middlesbrough suffer a 4-0 disaster at home to Doncaster but then bring their men back at Millwall and win 3-0. Why can't we recover like that? I guess as individuals we have different ways of looking at what happens at our club. |  | | |

Forget the cup loss. We played two league games and half looked good for 45 mins in both. I’m no happy clapper but just looking forward to seeing us able to sustain the bright patches for longer I hope. That will be easier without Madsen sorry to say. | | | |

It's too early to panic, but letting in the type of sloppy goals we have been is as top a priority this week as getting on top of the injury situation.
As someone said above: in three months Cook has aged alarmingly. Defensively, the first half was shocking. Maybe JS was right to change the back four given how big and mobile WFC were, but it all looked unhinged.
However, some positives. JS certainly got a response after HT. Again for me, Morgan impressed playing out of position as he was. Might have been a different story if he'd been in the CM from the start as opposed to the totally ineffectual Madsen. I thought the Dane's open and frank preseason interview was touching, but that's the thing, his wanting to 'touch' the ball is not apparent and if anything, he looks like he wants to avoid it. Thus Varane's return is a relief.
I also thought something Sints said about Kone very telling. He picked up on how Kone was barking instructions at team mates about where he wants it. Very Charlie Austin for me, and having a bossy striker is a good thing. However, we have to learn asap that he and Burrell are strikers who need to run on to balls and not as we did to Burrell in the first half i.e. lump it head height.
