Five things about Ipswich 12:20 - Aug 18 with 1135 views | franniesTache | Because Nick hasn't done this yet 1. Actually having a direct train from London for the first time in ages made a massive difference, managed to get to Ipswich in just over an hour which was nice 2. Saints still look like a work in progress but i'm also pretty happy with what i'm seeing, once we've got rid of the worst bits of the Martin hangover we'll be a decent side to watch 3. Jack Stephens had a really good game and rescued Saints a few times, i know this goes against the usual narrative but he's been performing really well this season 4. Jay Robinson is a talent but needs to be managed so he doesn't burn out. Currently he's the most creative player in the side & that's going to come with a lot of pressure 5. Someone needs to take our fans and force them to listen to Simon and Garfunkle or the Lemonhead's version of Mrs Robinson, because i've never heard a group of fans sing a song so badly out of time - almost double the speed - and to a completely different tune before. It's like they knew the words but none of them knew the song, so just sang the words to a completely different tune instead

Five things about Ipswich on 12:39 - Aug 18 with 1043 views | saint901 | First half = good. Unfortunate own goal caused by one of three CB's getting a bit carried away. Good goal from us - pleased for the lad. Second half = not so good. The players came under a bit of pressure (the Wrexham team had run out of legs by 60 minutes, Ipswich did not) and seemed a little confused about what they were meant to do and some went backwards into the RM style which as we know is not good. Overall pleased with a point away at a team who will be in the top 6 come next April. League leaders next though - could be a better test.
Five things about Ipswich on 14:08 - Aug 18 with 920 views | SaintNick | Its actually "5 Things About" not Five Things About, these things matter, you were lucky you got back to London within an hour, I was still on the ring road in Ipswich an hour after the game finished. I agree Jack had a good game, when he is on the ball he was ok, my whole point is that we need a leader in the centre of defence and it is not Jack, if we were going to play that back three, better to play THB in the centre and have moved Jack to the right. With regard to Simon & Garfunkel songs, it is better to have an out of sync Mrs Robinson than The Sound Of Silence

Five things about Ipswich on 14:23 - Aug 18 with 872 views | Southamptonfan | 1) Set off at 6, Nick's coaches, arrived in Ipswich about 10:15, time for a drink and a wander around the ground. Relaxed on the coach there and back, no issues got back to Southampton by 6:30. Well organised, very comfortable journey there and back. 2) Great day out, much better than the trips to futuristic spaceship stadiums in the PL, with zombie like, stadium shop bag carrying tourists. Again, have to say it - Love the Championship, firstly because these are proper fans. The Ipswich fans were friendly as you like. Many walked up to us, all wanting to chat football, all happy to be out of the PL, chatting about losing our best players etc. No tourists, down to earth folk who suffered like us last season, just local supporters who follow their local club. It' a proper traditional stadium, fans close to the pitch. I was in the upper tier, about 3 rows from the front, decent view, although very cramped! I thought their support was quite good, loud at times (in a non-hostile way). 3) Jack Stephens has been our best defender. He's been brilliant, on and off the pitch. However, we need to sort out these mistakes. Quashie, I haven't made my up on him yet. He makes mistakes, but he's young, so hopefully he will learn. However, I like his attitude. He gives his absolute all, yes he's chaotic at the moment, but he's a presence and his great long throws into the box could be useful. 4) Saints - I enjoyed the performance. Not perfect yet and things to iron out but a good point away from home against title contenders. Putting the mistakes and flaws to one side for a moment, it's been a long time since I have seen us play with such commitment. I felt that the team gave their all, blood, sweat and tears. That's a good sign. If we can iron out the mistakes, we will be a very good side. We looked better without Downes up front. Sorry but he isn't energetic enough for me. He just stands about like Mara did. Robinson, Armstrong, Fraser run with energy in all areas of the pitch. 5) Jay Robinson, forget Dibling, this lad Robinson is going to be one hell of a player. He was dripping with sweat when he came off. He works his socks off. There is difference between him and Dibling. He doesn't come on with long hair and a brightly coloured hairband to look the part, look at me. He runs and he runs like his life depends on it. Messy hair, humble, he only cares about winning on the pitch and working hard for the shirt. Cracking attitude and my player of the season so far. Fraser has also been excellent and is a quality player at tis level.

It was less the speed that annoyed me (though that did annoy me) and more that it was completely the wrong tune
Five things about Ipswich on 14:51 - Aug 18 with 803 views | saintoaks | 1- We looked ok, lack of creativity from anything infront of Charles & Downes. Don't know where the goals are going to coming from though (Leeds 89 Burnley 69 last season) 2- Nice reception for the little skate *rick Chaplin when he came on especially when Shea Charles went through the back of him 3- Miracle when Szmodics got up after looking like he'd been shot (good "it's a miracle song" as well) :) 4- Noticed we get alot of players in the box when we do attack (look at the goal we scored) 5- No flags allowed at the front of the stand unless it was tiny (footballs gone bonkers)

I quite liked the song sang at the fans to the right of us. "Sit down if you love Norwich" that confused them big time

Do you remember an away game at Arsenal near the end of the season on a midweek evening when the Saints fan sang ‘Stand up if you hate Hoddle’ and the whole of Highbury’ stood up and joined in 🙂
