What a signing! Certainly just what we needed to add to our team. I'd even say as good as Jay Bird was for us I wouldn't swap him for Dieseruvwe now. Just Mani's height/strength is a massive advantage but then his finishing too has been superb so far. Looking into his career a bit this morning and he's certainly a later developer with recent goals record for Hartlepool and before that his success getting both Grimsby and Salford promoted out of the National League at Wembley. That sort of experience is invaluable and you've got to say hats off to Jim for getting him here.

Started the season on fire…

Looks to be really enjoying himself with Dale!! Long may this continue.

Selfless hard working and prepared to all the hard yards… add his obvious eye for a goal or two..

Fantastic work by all concerned to get him here.

Leading scorer in National league and quite a way ahead for goals per minute, long may it continue.

Jay Bird was good but Mani gives us a completely different dynamic to how we play. He is the missing link from last season that we needed, someone that will reliably hit the back of the net when we are on top and can win every header that he gets to. The playing style was never the issue, as I’ve seen someone already say this season, it was the quality and attributes we needed in the right positions that wasn’t quite there throughout the squad. Now, so far, the squad looks capable of really pushing on.

The difference is that Mani is a n experienced target man and offers something we have not had for a long while - someone who we can play the ball up to and it will stick. There were three or four wonderful examples yesterday when a challenging ball was played to him, he controlled it and laid it off and as a team we could get up the pitch.

Bird is a different type of striker and is inexperienced and perhaps uses his power and pace a bit more, but is possibly a bit less technically refined.

Watching Mani's goals yesterday both were high quality finishes. The cross was slightly behind him but he guided his header exquisitely into the corner. His second was placed beautifuly into the side of the goal with hardly any backlift. He is a real asset and would adapt to life in League Two.

If he keeps this form up we should rename our mascot 'Dieseruvwe Dragon'!

There was 1 long ball from Whatmuff in the 2nd half that Mani brought down from the sky on his chest, cushioned it, then layed it off. Top quality target man play - something we've probably not had since O'Grady came - and that season ended with promotion.

Having someone who can head the ball and hold it up and lay it off has changed the dynamics of our attacking football. The service he gets was there last season too but we simply didnt have a player capable of taking real advantage because he couldnt head the ball effectively....As I have said many times, scoring 2 goals a game is the simple requirement in this League assuming you have a competent defence...
The re-emergence of EEL as a defensive force is the platform that allows midfield more freedom to create and Mani completes the jigsaw.. Its not perfect, yet, but there are now players ready to step in and we are well poised to have a great season, even if we pick up a few injuries along the way....we now just need another 1000 people to turn up to watch!

I thought we would attract more than 2500 yesterday.

Schools are back … Dale made it 4 wins from 4 at Spotland (League)

It shows what a difficult task it is to grow the fan base.

......and no Premier League games, just a boring ,boring England game to consider.

But where are the missing thousands? The buzz at San Spotty is as good as ever, winning at home and always guaranteed a first half of decent flowing football.

Notice Southend pulled in excess of 8000 against Halifax......some clout that, will it be mentioned shortly?

The club must keep trying new initiatives to build on what has been a transformative 12 months.. all positive.

If the winning run keeps going into mid October we must be able to get 3000 home fans through the gates.

Our average home attendance is already higher than it was at the end of last season (when games v Oldham, Halifax, York and Hartlepool were included), and also higher than after four home games last season.

There isn't any evidence of the club 'giving up'; if anything, getting 2562 against unattractive opposition on Saturday (with 2533 Dale fans) is a sign that the crowds are heading in the right direction, albeit slowly.

The atmosphere and positivity at games is also on the up. These things take time, especially after many seasons of things heading south. It's much harder to attract and keep fans than it is to lose them, and the on the day admission prices are still a bit high for some people to suddenly start coming every week.

There are several fathers/mothers and their children sat near to me who weren't there last season. One told me that he was a City fan, but his son wanted to come to Dale and it's only cost them £300 for two season tickets. I imagine there will be similar cases all over the ground.

Apologies.. i have changed the opening line on my post to something more aligned to the positive moves by the club to increase attendances at Spotland on a match day.

It was not my intention to be negative.

Winning football matches is the key ingredient and in that department the players have delivered a perfect 12 points from our opening 4 league games.

Excellent story that a son has now encouraged his City supporting Dad to Dale and they both have season cards.

I didn't read your post as negative, but more that there needs to be an acknowledgement that increasing crowds is not an exact science.
