The tardy Swansea City v Plymouth Argyle Match day thread UPDATED 19:08 - Aug 24 with 10946 viewsModeratorC

League Cup 2nd round.

⚽️ Head-to-Head & Recent Form

Recent encounters favour Swansea: They’ve won five of the last six meetings (all competitions) against Plymouth.

2024–25 season highlight: Swansea secured a 3-0 win in April 2025.

Plymouth’s recent Cup struggles: Plymouth have progressed beyond this stage only once in the past six seasons; their last second-round win was in 2007–08.

⚽️ Referee: Elliot Bell will officiate. This is his second Swansea match—the first was a Championship game last season. He has experience in international exchanges, including matches in Japan. Assistants: Harley McKittick and Ross Murphy. Fourth official: Matthew Russell.

Bell had a shocker on the weekend, truly abysmal, highlighted by Sky Sports, Ref Watch.

No Watford dramatics please.

⚽️ Swansea City
Tactical adjustment:
Instead of pivoting around Matt Grimes (also known as the handbrake) Swansea now build through full-backs and wingers more often. Ethan Galbraith’s move to right-back in the last game showed how they can adapt by using midfielders in hybrid defensive roles. We can expect a changed side. However, there needs to be enough on the bench in case it goes all chips.

⚽️ From PASOTI - They Played For Both Sides
David Beresford, Lee Chapman, Russell Coughlin, Geoff Crudgington, Luke Cundle, Noel Dwyer, Jermaine Easter, Rory Fallon, Warren Feeney, Jordon Garrick, Chris Harrison, Conor Hourihane, Barrie Jones, Dennis John, George Kirby,Sean McCarthy, Daniel Nardiello, Kevin Nugent, Nathaniel Ogbeta, Colin Randell, Scott Sinclair, Matty Sorinola, Colin Sullivan, Tommy Tynan, Morgan Whittaker, Rhys Wilmot, Bolasi, Marc Clode

Keep em coming.

It’s horrific
This is why they are playing in a virtually empty stadium
The crowd seem bored the players disinterested
And were playing Russy ball
Has to change

Ffs! Horrific, really?

In other news, great finish Zan.

Fisher should have claimed that. Looping hanging ball that dropped in his 6 yard box. Keeper error for me

Hrs not a keeper

A Martin legacy we are stuck with
We needed and still need real keeper cover
Fisher is beyond words

I was going to say okay performance, albeit one where we missed chances, but have to mark that down a notch. Widell, Parker and Inoussa have been poor, and the defence overall has looked shaky. Let us hope we can finally click in the 2nd half.

I agree. Strong and likes to get on the ball. Let's hope this is the beginning of a very successful time with us.

Fisher has single handed lost us games before
I’m hoping not this one
One who lacks the basic attribute for a keeper; courage
As spineless as it gets
Fulton again just being Zfulton
Just why is he still with us and still playing
Wittelis very much at sea and it’s rather concerning even at this stage
Hope

Bollocks. Poor defending.

Tall play heads in a back post, either you put a tall defender there or you expect your goalie to come and claim or punch one to be watched again to make another comment.

As for the football sucked into playing the ball down the wings as the midfield is too high if you are expecting Tymon and Parker to press so high the midfield needs to drop towards the ball, if you are going to press 6 men forward then just play the ball in behind their back four. Unless the ball is transferred quicker from wing to other wing then they have time to set their shape.
New team mates but we are leaving the midfield empty in front of Stamenic with no movement.

I should have put a comma between bollocks and poor defending. I thought our general play in the first half was ok and we certainly should have been a couple up. Agree re: the movement up top from midfield.Let's hope we can push on this half and it doesn't become too scrappy.

longtime complaint of mine, but as somebody who is often at work during the games and cannot watch, i like reading a text based commentary. the Swansea City website ( https://www.swanseacity.com/fixture/view/55984#tab_fixture_match_action) offers some of the poorest match commentary anywhere. even the Plymouth site is offering a richer account of today's match.

it would not be hard to upgrade this but for years its been bottom of the barrel.
