The tardy Swansea City v Plymouth Argyle Match day thread UPDATED 19:08 - Aug 24 with 10945 views | ModeratorC | League Cup 2nd round. ⚽️ Head-to-Head & Recent Form Recent encounters favour Swansea: They’ve won five of the last six meetings (all competitions) against Plymouth. 2024–25 season highlight: Swansea secured a 3-0 win in April 2025. Plymouth’s recent Cup struggles: Plymouth have progressed beyond this stage only once in the past six seasons; their last second-round win was in 2007–08. ⚽️ Referee: Elliot Bell will officiate. This is his second Swansea match—the first was a Championship game last season. He has experience in international exchanges, including matches in Japan. Assistants: Harley McKittick and Ross Murphy. Fourth official: Matthew Russell. Bell had a shocker on the weekend, truly abysmal, highlighted by Sky Sports, Ref Watch. No Watford dramatics please. ⚽️ Swansea City Tactical adjustment: Instead of pivoting around Matt Grimes (also known as the handbrake) Swansea now build through full-backs and wingers more often. Ethan Galbraith’s move to right-back in the last game showed how they can adapt by using midfielders in hybrid defensive roles. We can expect a changed side. However, there needs to be enough on the bench in case it goes all chips. ⚽️ From PASOTI - They Played For Both Sides David Beresford, Lee Chapman, Russell Coughlin, Geoff Crudgington, Luke Cundle, Noel Dwyer, Jermaine Easter, Rory Fallon, Warren Feeney, Jordon Garrick, Chris Harrison, Conor Hourihane, Barrie Jones, Dennis John, George Kirby,Sean McCarthy, Daniel Nardiello, Kevin Nugent, Nathaniel Ogbeta, Colin Randell, Scott Sinclair, Matty Sorinola, Colin Sullivan, Tommy Tynan, Morgan Whittaker, Rhys Wilmot, Bolasi, Marc Clode Keep em coming.

The tardy Swansea City v Plymouth Argyle Match day thread UPDATED on 10:54 - Aug 27 by raynor94 | "Why weren't the 2 home games sell outs" simply around 15500 is our average gate even our premier league promotion that was our average gate. The football of the last few years has been boring winning football might get a few more in but for some reason we are not a hot bed of support |
I’m not sure that’s a great comparison. Seven years, particularly the first few when we were exciting, of PL football ‘should’ have gained us thousands of new fans across the city. I get that a lot of them are fair weather and would have been put off by the last few seasons, but you’d think a reasonable amount would get hooked. Attendance wise, it’s almost as if the PL seasons never happened. Still, as frustrating as it is, all any of us can do is turn up ourselves.

Plus we have just had our 4th home game in a row.

Not a problem. Personally I think our attendances so far are not that bad and just a sign of where we are. Currently I think we are a team/club in transition and to get bigger crowds we need to excite supporters and we haven't done that so far. Last night apart I have enjoyed our games but I don't think we have done enough for supporters to put their hands in their pockets and buy tickets. We are not far off but not there yet. The tardy Swansea City v Plymouth Argyle Match day thread UPDATED on 10:30 - Aug 27 by nicky | Fair play to Fisher. I still blame him for their goal - he should have been coming for that and catching or punching it. But aside from that he did well in open play and the pen save. |
It's a mystery. Both Fish and Vig are nailed to their line and invite opposition teams to cross and have free headers at the 6 yard box. That would suggest it's a coaching issue, yet we have one of the best goalkeeping coaches in the league.

Yes, he is an enigma. Last night was a perfect example of why some people rate him and others don’t. Incredible goal. Very few players have a shot like that in their locker. Then aside from a nice backpass interception, when he rounded the keeper and shot timidly, you wouldn’t have known he was on the pitch for the other 90 minutes. Last nights game was a microcosm of last season for him. Before anyone says ‘yeah but Cullen….’ I’d pick him from the two, but he’s not the answer either. Hopefully this Saturday will be the last time either them are first choice #9

The tardy Swansea City v Plymouth Argyle Match day thread UPDATED on 11:36 - Aug 27 by Whiterockin | Sometimes the work behind a win goes unseen. |
I think Fisher got us out of a couple of holes of our own making with his saves and we have seen Vigouroux reluctant to come off his line to collect crosses at times so maybe it is a coaching thing. What bothers me most is the thinking that midfield have to be attackers or defenders they need to be both we are asking our fullbacks to be attackers and defenders and yet not the midfielders, after intial good forward movement in the middle of the park we then had Fulton and Widell waiting high up the park similar to Eom and Inoussa waiting for us to get the ball to them so theýcan do something magical with it but by the time it got to them the Plymouth defenders got back in place if the midfielders and fullbacks drop deeper to receive the ball in front of them then you can get in behind the opposition as they advance to close you down which is exactly what teams have been doing to us for quite some time and not just down the flanks but also up through the middle which we couldn't do until the midfield changed in the second half after the good ibtial play which we did in the first half. As for the crowds yes we have lost a lot of fans and until more positive results are evident then they will stay away. At the moment I have the time to go to home games, football has always been a part of my life that is not going to change except when family needs must. We must remember the stadium attendance in our first year [Post edited 27 Aug 12:52]

Fair comment He’s got a rocket in his locker but his overall play is poor I’m of a mind to suggest good coaching would help I’m not convinced of our coaching Fisher made saves as he’d paid to do

Fisher was excellent last night. Arguably at fault for the goal, but we shouldn’t have had Widdell on a centre back. Whatever people thought of him when he was first choice, there will be very few backup keepers close to his ability. I’m surprised he hasn’t tried to get a loan somewhere he’d play every week.

Rounded the keeper then spent too much time getting the ball onto his right foot where he should be using his left, if he missed with his left he may have got a bit of stick not a lot as the angle was tight but think of the praise he would of got for a second in the game and a third in two games. At times as a forward you don't get time for the second touch.Confident striker puts it away with his left or weaker foot, how do you become a better player if you don't try to improve your weaknesses.

Yes, he’s got no confidence in situations like that, the shot from Innousas pass Saturday was similar. In fairness, he made the right run in both situations, just rushed it both times and both shots ended up like back passes. Still, I’d rather him be doing that than not getting into shooting positions in the first place (which usually happens unfortunately). Yet the goal he scored was an absolute thunderbolt!

As you say Richard, he would have been well on the road to putting his hand up to Sheehan and saying "I'm your man" if he had tucked that away with a little left side-footed finish. Two in two shouldn't be sniffed at but it just seems odd that in the same game he has the confidence to smash one in from 30 yards out, but not to trust his instinct as a poacher. I was a hopeful supporter of his last season as it was refreshing for the Swans to have a striker whose first thought was to hit hard at goal, not fanny around too much and try and walk it in. I am not so blinkered to realise he is not the forward to build the team around as he just doesn't have enough to his game (or any sort of obvious consistency), but while he is still popping up and scoring the odd goal then he worthy of a squad place if he is willing to accept not being number 1.

Hard to know what is going on given Wales excellent cameo v Crawley. Is Sheehan trying to kick-start VIP's season or putting him in the shop window? 2 goals in 195 minutes and 38 touches...either we view that as excellent goal-scoring efficiency or being a waste of a shirt if not scoring... Time will tell.

Imo it means he doesn't rate him, and looked up to the directors, who know his opinion to cash in and replace. A look says a thousand words.
