The Safe Space on 10:42 - Aug 26 with 1546 views | CroydonCaptJack | Art and Music for me. Frankie boys obviously the connection here but music can completely take you away from general day to day life. Art is very subjective but I think there is something for everyone. Ignore the elitist rubbish and get yourself down to one of the big galleries, see what you like and start exploring more about those artists and their lives. For me it is mainly Impressionists. Those blokes were derided and laughed at when they started. The purists thought they were not talented because they didn't paint like a photograph. However, they were trying to catch a moment and every day life. The irony is their paintings are more popular then the old Masters now. My favourite artist is probably Van Gogh, not necessarily for his actual works (although his later ones were truly fantastic) but his life story. So well preserved in all the letters he wrote, mainly to his brother. So we have a well documented story of his short life. Anyway, that is one of my favourite soothing topics. Give it a try if you haven't before.

I saw Van Gogh sitting in a pub once. When I offered him a drink he said ‘no thanks, I’ve got one ear’.

The Safe Space on 07:19 - Aug 27 with 909 views | FDC | During my PhD whenever I was losing the plot I would go and stand in the stationery cupboard. I was really excited to find out that we had access to it, so I'd go and find a pack of highlighter pens, or a new notepad or something, it helped me regain a sense of control. On Sunday, to take my mind off the Coventry game i took my daughter stationery shopping for her first day back at school. It was nice that we seem to share an understanding of the potency of getting new stationery. When we got home I found her meticulously sorting through it, allocating different pens and pencils to different pencil-cases, and making an inventory in her new notebook. Stationery, everyone. It's the shit.

The Safe Space on 21:07 - Aug 27 with 586 views | stevec | My wife was having a go at me about hanging the washing out once in a while. In this lovely weather we’ve been having I decided I’d give it a go and I can’t tell you how therapeutic I’m finding it. Weirdly, now she’s realised how much I’m enjoying it, she’s trying to put a stop to it. She literally hovers over the washing machine so she gets first dibs, rushes out to the garden to hang it up (badly) and gets a bit sulky if I try to muscle in. Anyway, when she’s not looking, I pop out to rehang it properly and put a few extra items out (she can’t reach part of the line). I’m of the opinion that men can find an inner peace in almost anything, much to the chagrin of the woman in your life.

Have my zen moment. Then get off the plane, go home and turn into one of those dots rushing here, there and nowhere and the zen moment is gone !!!
