Sheffield Wednesday v Swansea City : Match day thread 15:39 - Aug 27 with 11558 viewsModeratorC

An away trip for the second time this season takes the Jack Army to Sheffield, and in particular the Owls this Saturday with a 3pm Kick Off. The Owls can be described as having an underwhelming start with lacklustre league form but some resilience in cup games. They are in the third round of the League Cup. Severe financial woes, structural issues, ownership controversy, but possible takeover / investment in progress via an ex Crystal Palace owner.

Most were in Sheffield watching obviously 😉

Well, 783 away fans due to the lack of ticketing awareness is right.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

They drew away to Wrexham and home to Leeds in the last week. Are they really that bad, I would rather say we are becoming a very good team.

Some can’t bear to hear that. I’m with you - we have the makings of an excellent team. Quite why Jack247 wasn’t saying this under Williams or Martin when we truly weren’t good I have no idea.

Isn't it amazing how many posters disappear when we win and the thread is half the length.

Hopefully they won’t be afraid to post their views case they get jumped upon
I thought we played well enough but should have put them to sleep before halftime
Not playing Wales is bizarre
We know what Cullen does
We need to see what Wales does

We are very profligate in front of goal and better teams will hurt us

Because they hadn’t just lost six first team players for free due to financial mismanagement when we played them under Martin or Williams

Lovely the lack of panic on the edge of their box taking time to try and work the space to get into scoring positions.

One moment of concern was seeing Cabango being given the chance to drive on with the ball at his feet because of th space left in front of him but Key also press on high basically leaving us vulnerable on our right side, we were almost punished? I can't remember if it was at one nil or two nil but thought it was reckless we didn't leave adequate cover in place and could have allow them back into the game .

One point for all the referee's out there, we know at a penalty no-one other than the penalty taker and goalie is allowed in the box including the arc on the edge of the box.
Is it the same for the opposing team players when a goal kick is being taken Vipotnik seem to be inside the arc although not the box, the ref tried to stop him standing in the arc but Vipotnik. seemed to think he could stand inside the arc which is really to stop players getting within a certain distance from the penalty spot. So are attackers allow any where on the edge of the box including the arced area at goal kicks?

Pride comes before a fall. You really are putting yourself out on a limb here and I’ve no idea why. The difference in our team now even under the excellent end of season run under Sheehan is night and day. This side would have smashed 5 goals plus under the Martin/Williams footbal model

Their keeper made 6 saves and out of our 17 shots 8 were on target. Their keeper kept the score respectable and there’s a lot more to come from this team. We are only 4 league games in out of 46 mind and we’re 7th.

I think you’ve misunderstood me on this one. Our team is way better than under Martin or Williams.

The point I was making was that Sheffield Wednesday were very weak yesterday. You asked why I hadn’t said that under those managers and I said because they hadn’t just lost half their first team on frees at that point.

Nothing to do with comparing the respective Swansea teams that played them, but yes I agree, we have a much better team and a much better manager than we did then.

My understanding is that an attacker has to be outside the penalty area when a goal kick is being taken - Law 16. The arc is not part of the penalty area therefore I believe Vipotnik was correct and the referee incorrect.

Intially thought the ref was right, the more I saw him struggled with Vipotnik the more I thought Vipotnik was right, thanks for the clarification.

Saw the extended highlights - we were two or three levels above Wednesday. Galbraith and Stamenic are both already huge players for us but a special mention for Inoussa - he’s really got something about him - loved the way he measured a beautiful pass to Franco but just hit it wide. Great assist I think he’s the only name that should be considered for the LW position. If we had another like him at RW and even #10 we’d be smashing up this league !
Vip was wonderful - unlucky not to score twice.

Just to add the turn Inoussa did in our defensive half and left the Wednesday player for dead. Also his early pass across the box (again, seems like his specialty) for Galbraith who side footed wide. Galbraith heavily involved in EVERYTHING, assisting the assist for both goals. He’s already one of the best midfielders in the league and looks a class above.
