Listen to a lot of Robert Elms. He sold up his house in Camden a while back to move into a flat in the Barbican.

He properly eulogises living in a tower block. I didn't like it one bit. Communal areas were dirty and poorly maintained. What I remember most were the tiny red ants that lived in the concrete

I've delivered to the Barbican, its an absolute nightmare. All very well for bike riding city slickers but not for me, no open fields and trees to walk my dog for a start unless you count finsbury Square.

captains fantastic

I lived in the infamous Hermes Point on Chippenham Road/Harrow Road for 5 years. Falling to bits, lifts always breaking down, white asbestos in the walls, infested with cockroaches. Lovely place to live. We used to look at Trellick with envy!

To be fair there's probably a difference between a flat in central London that's worth £2 million and costs ten grand a year in service charges and a flat in a council block on a council estate in W10.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

My mate has lived in the Barbican for decades and has just been told in his block they all have to stump up 100k per flat to replace the (admittedly lovely) full length windows and frames.

That’s not a bill many can meet

I heard Julien Stephan say he is living in an apartment a stones throw from loftus road stadium, so am assuming he is in one of these White City Living Apartments.

They have a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, gym, business lounge, concierge and even a cinema within. Not exactly old school tower block living.

My parents both grew up in council flats from the 1950s and beyond and my aunt until her recent passing was in tower hamlets. Not saying any relevance about this and know we avoiding such discussions on here, as its a tense point currently, but when she moved there, it was 94% indigenous white british and from a stat, i saw in one of the daily newspapers was that this figure is now as low as 29% in Tower Hamlets. Quite a stat to understand !!
