Interested to know the last time a manager here only used one sub? 15:04 - Sep 20 with 6674 views | bosh67 | I am sure someone will tell me but what it does tell me is that Stephan will only make changes if he really needs to and he's learning very fast at this level. But, impressed that he kept faith in the team out there with only one adjustment.

Interested to know the last time a manager here only used one sub? on 14:40 - Sep 21 by StreathamRanger | Apologies. I got the facts wrong about the training ground confrontation which was aimed at CN rather than JS. There were however plenty who made their minds up very quickly about JS. He had a derogatory nickname (Le Shrug) I think even before the Coventry game. Nice to see that people are coming around to seeing that he might be doing a decent job and that a lot of the recruitment has actually been pretty good. Things can turn very quickly though so I'll just try and enjoy it while we're doing well. |
Yeah fair comments for the most part . There were a couple, but not many ‘writing him off’ so I’ll agree to disagree . The nickname has already been explained and whilst maybe slightly unnecessary, isn’t exactly spiteful or venomous or worth getting offended on his behalf for. But I do take your point overall

Kone and Burrell were a constant threat and Stoke couldn’t pour forward as they had to cover two strikers pressing high. He could have made changes to waste time or disrupt the rhythm but then time is added and our own rhythm might have been disrupted. It showed confidence that this team could see the game out.

He probably does but that does not mean that to take Varane off and only use one sub when many (maybe not you) could see that several players were 'out on their feet' and struggling to shut down the opposition like they did earlier on the match.....

Interested to know the last time a manager here only used one sub? on 17:49 - Sep 20 by StreathamRanger | A few weeks ago, everyone was raging that the players were unfit. There was talk of confronting the manager at the training ground. Today we had 10 players play 90 minutes and keep a clean sheet against a form side (many have said we've only beaten rubbish teams before today). There's no midweek game so the players have plenty of time to recover. Can't we just enjoy the result and congratulate the team and manager on a good performance? Also worth pointing out that the two supposedly ropey teams we beat recently both had very good wins away from home today. Championship is wide open this year. Nobody is going to run away with it. |
As a counter point, almost half of those 10 didn't pre season with us

Maybe re-read the Julien Stephan thread and other threads around that time and with many upvotes. More than a couple of people calling him a patsy, puppet, Critchley mark 2, telling him to f**k off in French, calling him Julia, saying he doesn't pick the team, is too weak. That's after his third match without his final squad and with loads of injuries (admittedly a woeful performance). But I'll agree to disagree too. Especially as everyone much happier now. But I also hope he gets the same patience as Marti did when we have the inevitable poor patch.
