Refwatch - Carlisle United v Rochdale on 14:18 - Sep 28 by R17ALE | I'll add to that. This is the best Dale side I've seen since before lock down. (A low bar to be fair). Watching yesterday reminded me of a Hill side, more so when we are not in possession. At last, we look like we have goals in us and we now have a goalscorer. Whether or not Carlisle were shite or we were particularly good I'm not sure. What I could see is that we were fitter and hungrier than them. Crucially there seemed to be a collectiveness about the bunch to get the job done. At some point soon we will come up against a team whose Manager has devised a way to play against us that might flummox us. Some might even accuse McNulty of sending us out to play badly. When the time comes, we have to hope that the 3 wise men on the bench can tactically out-manouevre the opposition by use of subs and formation change. [Post edited 28 Sep 14:20]

You’d hope no one would think he does that! I do believe he has learnt tactically over time though. Even if I still have personal misgivings about how wedded we are to the 3-4-3 formation, there have been enough examples last season and this about how he’s evolved his thinking to make us more effective. Recruitment is key to this of course. Bird last season, Dieseruvwe this time around have both allowed us to get up the pitch more quickly whilst retaining the same philosophy of how the manager wants his teams to play. I’m also a fan of what they’ve done with East to ensure he’s impacting the game in the last third. A lot depends on Gilmour retaining both fitness and his imperious form to allow this, but we are flooding the opposition box. With it being so clear that what we want to achieve is producing results, there also has to be an acceptance that we might play badly or the opposition might be better on occasion. The management team would indeed be responsible for finding solutions, and you’d hope any criticism would be constructive and fairly distributed.

Spotted this on their message board "Rochdale's start is quite incredible. If they win today they'll have 4 more points than Wrexham had in their 111 point season at the same stage." Nobody will get close to that this season, but it does show how well we have done so far!

And showed yesterday it was not about us having a soft early set of games.

That's true as we now have now played 10 games to take stock. On reflection Boreham Wood and the Carlisle game are the two stand outs. Even the potential banana skin of Truro away has been navigated and is now out of the way. Still very early days of course but there is so much to like about our management team, the players and what they are delivering on a match day. That first half against Carlisle was electric.
