USA says it will "ensure" that Israel is not banned from the World Cup 16:41 - Sep 25 with 2229 views | saint901 | We have I think all seen footage of Israeli teams playing in Europe and fans using the occasion to make political statements along the lines of "stop the genocide" and similar. We will no doubt see the national team being similarly treated - I think their next game is against Italy in October. Whatever your view on Israeli actions in Gaza, I can see that if I were running a football club or national team, there are some obvious problems in hosting Israel. I have read that some national federations make comparisons between the Israel/Gaza situation and Ukraine/Russia. Certainly Russia will not be at the World cup. In a "nicey, nicey" world, there would of course be no cross over between politics and sport. Unfortunately we don't live in that world. We could now possibly have that bastion of free speech - the USA - use its muscle as host of the world cup and geopolitical power to force other nations to accept Israel playing in a competition it is hosting. What happens then if Israel is drawn against a middle eastern rival? It is to be hoped that Israel will not qualify - they are with Italy, Norway, Estonia and Moldova. But they are currently third, level with Italy and the Italians are not playing well. If they qualify should they play? if they play would you watch?

And their 'Middle Eastern rivals' -not one country in that region has lifted a finger to help the Palestinians. Apparently the NHS is going to treat 300 or more Palestinian children. Where are similar offers of help from Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, The UAE or even Yemen? [Post edited 25 Sep 18:28]

Whether they will is another story obviously, but we should remember what happened on 7th October 2 years ago when out of nowhere over 1000 kids were brutally murdered, and raped and all sorts, and 250 ish taken hostage and there are still 50 odd still being held with the promise that Hamas had all intentions of wiing Isreal off the map What would you do if that happened and you were in the Isreali shoes, just stand back and let them carry on God knows how many have been killed on both sides since that October date but would that have occured if that initial attack hadn't happened? I don't know but something needs to be done by the powers that be to bring this to a halt

What happened in October 2023 was truly shocking and a terrible crime. Hamas are no friends of the Palestinian people. They are, however,a product of a brutal apartheid regime that is Israel. Imagine someone coming to your house bulldozing it and then forcing you to live with millions of others in a tiny strip of land where you have no rights to travel Water and electricity is controlled by Israel and any opposition is met with brutality and often imprisonment without trial. Israel’s response to Oct 2023 has now been seen as genocidal by the UN and others. Netanyahu is a war criminal and should be treated as such .
