The menus and the use of prayer mats, plus the alleged comment from the person from Sketty Mosque, were the bits that stuck in my mind. Wasn't there anything there you found concerning? Do you now accept that all meat for school meals purchased by the City and County of Swansea Council is Halal meat, and that this is not reflected in published menus? I did say we should wait for somebody to put forward a counter-argument, and thought you might be a good person to do that, but your post doesn't really make any strong counterpoints. It does seem that the controversy you said you would expect is seeping out into the wider community. | | | |

I just wanted to clarify if it’s was the Islam bit or the sex ed bit you were alluding to.
For me, the jury is still out on the halal meat. I said earlier in the thread what my feelings were if it turns out to be true.
I don’t really have an issue with showing the children how to use prayer mats as part of the RE curriculum, as long as it’s presented as ‘this is what Muslims do’.
These things tend to come out every now and then and presented as Islam creeping into schools. I don’t think that’s what it is.
Christianity is taught in every year of primary school, along with a comparative religion. This presents an issue in that for kids, Christianity becomes ‘wallpaper’ and the comparative religion becomes new and exciting and the children remember and talk about it.
The video presents it like it’s a school led curriculum choice led by socialist teachers. In reality the curriculum is set centrally and will be followed by all schools.
The education authority have called it out as untrue:

I must admit, as soon as I saw it was Voice of Wales I was pretty confident it would be spin. I’m very careful about the use of the word racist. I don’t think I’ve ever used it on here before. The bit of the curriculum for the use of the word penis is between the ages of 5 and 7, use the correct anatomical terms for body parts. I don’t have an issue with that. The alternative is not to answer children’s questions or thing of another word to use.
Halal meat needs clarifying.
There is absolutely no way a comparative religion is prioritised over Christianity. As an aside, I work in a church school and only 14% of families marked Christian on the admissions form.
If that’s true about the teachers then that’s an issue. It’s a difficult one as by law there is no power for a parent to withdraw from RE. If parents doesn’t agree with that then it can put them at odds with school. | | | |

100% agree the VOW who seem to change their name every few months it’s VOW 2025 now .
They are pure poison looking at every angle to bring in the race / religion card and now attacking a school thats done nothing wrong.
The staff are absolutely distraught at these accusations which do not in anyway resemble what actually happens .
But hey why let the truth get in the way of stirring up hatred.
The Halal meat story is nonsense as well the menus offer a selection at all schools from vegan to gluten free to meat to halal meat .

As I have said ask staff who work in schools if you want the truth, not politicians ticking boxes. Furthermore the demographic make up of a school population depends vastly on location. It's not unusual for a rural school to have a mainly if not total Christian children attending, whilst inner cities have a high percentage of non Christian children. The rules and regulations are not a rigid as some may think. |  | | |
