So what then is the reaction amongst the squad back on the training ground the following couple of days?
Well if I was a player I would think that:
(a) the manager’s post-match interview was pathetic, uninspiring and showed zero defiance or spirit;
(b) his plans may be good in theory/training but are not working in practice;
(c) the “magic” - if that IS the word - of Will Still has been shown to be fanciful;
(d) why should I, as a player, believe he has any tactical nouse because his past decisions have not led to positive results;
(e) why should I therefore bother to give 100% because the fans are turning against him.
In other words, it is now quite clear that, if he cannot galvanise the team, he has likely lost the dressing room and therefore is a DEAD MAN WALKING. MOREOVER, HE KNOWS IT, THE FANS KNOW IT, AND THE BOARD IN THEIR HEART OF HEARTS KNOW IT TOO.
SO FFS SR GET RID IF HIM NOW BEFORE THE TRAPDOOR TO RELEGATION OPENS ANY WIDER.

If I was one of our new players, like Damion Downs, for example, I'd be thinking, thank God I've found these suckers to pay me so many millions for doing nothing. And when they look around them and see players, like Alex McCarthy, the worst, yet highest paid goalkeeper in the Championship, they must think, this is ridiculously easy money. Still has been totally fcuked by Spors and his merry band of German recruiters.
We have spunked a fortune on a totally bonkers mix of players who, Scienza and Fellows apart, were massively overpriced and were not in positions that we needed to strengthen.
We would have been better off keeping Bree and Smallbone and not buying Roerslev or Jander. The £15 million we would have saved could have gone on a striker who isn’t Damion Downs. [Post edited 22 Oct 21:18]

I know I keep banging on but why don’t SR consider Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Nearly 500 games as a manager, respected by the players as a former player and a win rate of over 50%, he’s also out of work so his former club won’t be looking for a huge signing fee. But then what the feck do I or any of us know? | |
