Your opinion: he isn't worth it. That's fair enough, you can think that, but it doesn't make you any more "correct" or incorrect than Trampie (or anyone else) thinking he *is* worth that. It is silly money. But whether he's worth it or not in the current market is just a viewpoint that's hard to prove.
I tell you what though - I'd rather pay £45m for someone who's ever-present and had started to have an impact, than £16m for someone who looks crap and can't get off the bench. Everton seem to have had the better outcome from summer business.

Nope, the moment he signed he depreciated to true market value. Bony maybe so, I am certain that if man city relisted him the second he signed they would still receive £25m for him. Bad example by me there. But Gylfi is the perfect example.
He was sold for an exceptional price not market price, it seemed like only Everton thought he was worth that due to them offsetting it against a Champions League campaign (which they almost certainly won't get) they publicly said he could bring. If they relisted him the second he signed they would not get £45m. Probably closer to 25% less of that regardless of Leicester's apparent tentative interest. Hence they paid over market value and we had to sell. | |

I was probably Gylfi's biggest fan, 45 million pound was an excellent bit of business it is the utter garbage our DOF bought with (some of) that cash is the issue.
Fast flowing football was never coming with what we recruited, the lack of width in our side is fuking criminal. Dyer Routs & Nairsingh wouldn't get into any side in the top of half of the championship, Naughton has 1 thought when he gets the ball turn & send it backwards.

The market value is what someone is prepared to pay and Everton reportedly paid £45M, therefore that is Gylfi's market value.
Leicester was reported to have been prepared to pay £40M which is close to 90% of what Everton was said to have paid, other teams might also had been prepared to pay £45M also but the talk was Gylfi wanted to go to the Toffees, ballboy for them back in the day and all that, so no point anyone else going in unless they were going to smash £45M and the wages.

They were a one off specialist buyer. He was not worth £45m and that was not his true market value. His true market value is what he would reach on the open market in general terms. Everton will not be able to get sell him for £45m as they were the only club who felt they would pay that. So he is not worth that. Maybe he was technically for a split second as the papers were in the process of being signed - immediately after he is no longer a £45m player. Which is why we got a great price. | |
