Blue cards for sin bins during football matches set to be introduced ... 19:28 - Feb 8 with 939 viewstheloneranger

"The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will publish the detailed protocols for the trials on Friday, Sky News understands, with the new ruling expected to include blue cards."

"In the trials, blue cards will give referees the power to send players off for 10 minutes for dissent or cynical fouls."

"Two blue cards would result in a player's dismissal for the rest of the match, as would a blue and a yellow card."

Why overcomplicate things. With a sin bin you could end up with 8 a side or less. With VAR looking into it games would end up with a ridiculous amount of additional time. Unless there is no VAR for a blue.

I agree, it's too complicated. Just give them 15 minutes in the bin for a yellow card. 2 yellows still mkaes red but players should be able to appeal a yellow too as 5 yellows means a suspension.

You could get 8 V 11 and the game would be a total farce. Football is different to rugby.

Do you think they will give keepers a blue card,as if he goes off who goes in goals as its only a sin bin not like a sending off where usually they will sacrifice an outfield player for a keeper on bench, but for 10 minutes will they throw a player in making it a farce

In general it works well. Mainly used for dissent towards officials it helps reduce that and gives players an opportunity to reflect whilst calming down. It’s also a deterrent as the players dissent is leaving his team short. It’s been trialled this season in Wales.

It was never stopped!!

This is what happened ...

"The blue card was initially set to be trialled by the Football Association of Wales this season who intended to roll out the new rule in grassroots competitions, the paper reported."

"The football association was unable to get clearance to implement the rule change, however, and amateur players have been shown a yellow card for the sin-bin instead."

Why not simply play to the rules.
Warn players and managers before hand
Any lip and off they go.

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Suppose you’re right
Can’t get Nigel Owens out if my head vis a vis how to deal with go by players .
Referees can and should warn teams in the dressing rooms prior to the game that no player approaches the ref ,no player swears to the ref and only captain questions .
It really is that simple
Sadly, referees don’t seem to have the guts

If they really wanted to stop dissent they could.

1. Mic up pro games
2. Bodycams for refs at grassroots.

If a number of players come rushing up to the ref book them all, we would then see who is dull enough to do it while already book, Darling has done it a number of time and I have been surprised he stayed on he pitch. Should be the captaining liaising with ref in any controversial instance and I don't mean a one on one quering on a decision which could be asked in the heat of the moment but do not condone chasing after a ref and bad language If the players know they can get away with it they will carry on doing it, look at rugby were you don't get as much dissent because most of the players know what they are doing and know they will get punished.

Before every game the ref should reinforce the laws on dissent to the captains and ask them to advise the team on what actions will be taken.
We see any old player brandished the imaginary yellow card in an attempt to get people booked, that was being punished but now seems to be ignored instead of punished, it should be the captain querying.

You are always going to get refs who will not interact with players or even captains and shout the odds at anyone questioning their decisions, as always you have to play the ref as well as the opposition, good captains tend to turn referee's decision in a teams favour whenever possible.

Not impressed with the sin bin idea, comes across as a hit that some rugby team will take to get away with foul play if it was a senting off they would be force to rethink
also more disruption to the game.
Starting to think get rid of VAR, it creates more problems, disruption and questionable descions than letting the on field officials get on with it and actually make decisions which they now seem incapable of doing, seems even worse when Premiership officials drop down to Championship games totally unable to make decisions relying on a system not being used.

If retrospective action needs to been taken I'm sure you can use a redundant VAR officials to have a look at any teams complaints on players actions.

Today's statement read: "FIFA wishes to clarify that reports of the so-called 'blue card' at elite levels of football are incorrect and premature.

"Any such trials, if implemented, should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels."

That's what should happen but the ruling authorities don't want the refs fully enforcing the rules and the EPL doesnt want it either.

The short story is, the big clubs with the biggest name players have too much power and the money men don't want these clubs losing out because players cannot control themselves.

A foul a Swansea player sees red for wouldn't even see a card for the biggest clubs and their players. I'm certain we saw that during our EPL journey? We still see it now on tv. Some players get away with murder.

That's what I said below but started writing before your comment but got distracted before completing my comment. Rules should be enforced with discretion not totally ignored but seeing a foul mouth tirade on the TV directed towards refs go unpunished is unacceptable at any level

The most obvious issue to me is that how do you time 10 minutes.

Would it be 10 minutes from the time they left or 19 minutes playing time?

If the former then you’ll just get a defensive game or feigned injuries to eat up the time. It will be very boring.

If the latter, then you’ll have to employ a start / stop clock as in rugby. That’s a big step.

Sadly today referees are getting scored by the teams playing, referees assessors, media & pundits relentlessly. Every man & his dog has an opinion, many biased for one reason or another. Any referees who dishes out cards or tries to take the initiative by setting an example gets criticism from all quarters. Very often they are accused of losing control by dishing out too many cards. This affects the way they are allowed to make calls. Until there is strong & consistent leadership from the top ie FIFA or UEFA the best standard that we will see will be what is accepted by those lot in control. It would be pointless the EPL or EFL introducing standards if they are not applied across the rest of the world

How about football is returned to the game it was say 10 years ago. Im sure this would be a much more popular implementation amongst fans.
All this nonsense, Var, 5 subs, blue cards. It is ruining the game.
