Last night's attendance 18:46 - Nov 6 with 2274 viewsstainrods_elbow

Given as 14,054 on the BBC. Watching on my stream, and judging by the huge gaps in SAR etc, it looked more like 11k to me. (Though Boro seemed to have a good following in the top of the School End - for a mid-week game especially.)

It might be a small point, but it hacks me off if the club is doing its smoke and mirrors thing with the crowd too. Though I guess it shouldn't surprise us.

Poll: What should the club do now (assuming no imminent change of owners)?

Isn't it still the case that every season ticket holder is added in the attendance? I have never understood the premise behind that really, especially in this day and age.

I believe the Rail Standing is 99% season tickets but it was by no means 99% full last night.

They have to count the tickets sold for the game rather than mugs who make the effort to attend. If a seat is taken by a season ticket holder then they class it as sold.Every club does it I think.

Yes, I know that. So, basically, that means a ton of season ticket holders stayed away, I guess.
Call me old-fashioned, but in days gone by, an offical crowd of 14k looked like 14k, that's all.

I don’t know as I stayed away, but normally the family stand is pretty empty on midweek night games.

Probably got excited about the fact we played quite well against Sunderland.

Was in SAR.

Loads of free seats

I think most of the midweek home games have had poor actual attendances but as others have said all season ticket holders counted

Probably around 11k last night and that's with Boro filling the top tier at the school end also.

Doesn't help that all midweek games available on SKY.

Given our appalling home record over the last few years the loyalty of our home support has been pretty amazing, if not inexplicable.
We’re actually getting better crowds than we were about six or seven years ago when we were actually winning a reasonable number of home games, had a better team and were higher up the table.
A midfield of Freeman, Scowen and Luongo feels like dreamland these days.

I think some of it's down to "I will be gutted if I miss this 1 home win (a season)" Pretty much the reason I keep going. Got a ST. Maybe today will be the day, then it never is. But it will be against Stoke, because I'm not going.

I'm sure there are many reasons for stating the crowd as to how many tickets have been sold, but it has to be that way for accounting practices & payment of VAT.

The price that was paid for your season ticket has to be spread across the 23 matches, otherwise HMR&C will require clubs to hand over the duty at the time of receiving the income. Including the whole 20% for the tickets that are being paid for in installments.

This applies to all businesses & not just sports clubs. If you are attending a Christmas Party at a pub etc & have paid a deposit, the income is not declared until the day of the party. The deposits are held in a suspense account (not like the Post Office suspense account!) until the function.

That really would be a kick in the guts fella - but I'm m pretty confident that they won't. Could conceivably not win a home match before 2025. And I hope and pray you will be there to see it 🙂

There was a point last season, I think, where we had only won one home game in about a year. It was against Watford and I was away and watched on a stream. I will be away for Stoke and will watch on a stream. 🤞😬🤞

Surely a contender for the 'glossary' thread if is not there already?

Massaging the attendance figures is a must for the glossary.

Despite there being no apparent motive, other than the hilarious VAT fiddle notion.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?
