Neath 09:35 - Mar 14 with 7043 views | 1983 | I got off the train at Neath a few days ago and wondered around a bit waiting to be picked by my relatives, what has happened to Neath a shell of its proud past of a bustling working class rugby town. I got off the train and crossed the car park footbridge and walked over opposite the old police station just that walk it's self was like walking through Belfast in the 1970's what an absolute mess of a place. This town was built on hard working people proud of their town and history and now it's just boarded up shops, bargain booze and chavs screaming at each other I haven't been to Neath for at least 10yrs and was totally gobsmacked by the state of the place.

Neath on 08:02 - Mar 15 by lifelong | Haven’t been to the station for a long time, go to the market and town centre, can’t see how businesses remaining there are making a living, the Trostre retail park is well attended and quite busy. |
It's the same thing that largely did for Swansea City centre initially. Moron councillors encouraging the development of our of town retail parks whilst simultaneously making it more and more difficult and expensive for people to take their cars into the city centre.

Expensive ? £1 per hour ? Even less if you get the MI Permit with residents discount through the Swansea City Council Website ?

Measures taken long after the damage had already been done. It certainly wasn't that cheap (relatively) when they were tearing up the roads for the bendy bus and pedestrianising chunks of the city centre. In any case, free is still cheaper than £1 an hour, so people will go where parking is free. In common with local authorities all over the UK, Swansea council thought people would voluntarily catch the bus into town to do a days shopping. They were wrong.

People will not pay £5 parking for a mornings shopping, more if you stay for lunch.

It’s not just the parking though, it’s the hassle of getting in to the city centre with the endless procession of traffic lights, congestion etc. Dr W makes good points in his post too. Last time I went to Swansea City centre was for a graduation last summer, it was the first time in years and I’ve not been back.
Neath on 00:45 - Mar 17 with 1948 views | Robbie | Irrelevant pointing out certain obvious targets as a lost cause these days . My old stomping ground of Llanelli is trying to improve its culture and look . Station Road will always be the fly in the ointment in that necessary change . Neath no different to any populated area , maybe NPTC uses my hard earned to finance a certain location close to the train station , cheap booze shop alongside that area . Trip to Birmingham a few years ago , tents were pitched alongside the roads on grass verges leading into the City Centre , great look for a visitor .

£5 for 24 hours in the quadrant. £1 per hour for the first 4 hours. That’s very cheap for a city.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

That'sif you can get in the council car parks and they fill up quickly in the mornings with the commuters. After them it's NCP mostly and they are expensive. City gates car park is ridiculous for the first 3 to 4 hours. Specially when Orchard street is much cheaper.

Indeed. It's not rocket science. Greedy, stupid councils pushing an idiotic public transport agenda and seeking the rates from out of town developments have killed their own town centres. Chuck in the Police being more interested in going after naughty tweets than in terrorising the drunk & drugged up zombies that are a nuisance for decent people and you've got the perfect storm. The police do respond to anti social behaviour, but they are often reluctant to take it any further for whatever reasons. The ones that do get prosecuted, get a few weeks inside at most and then it's back to what they did before
Neath on 09:22 - May 9 with 1043 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I recently went to Neath. Parked at Morrisons 2 hours free. Checked the new library which was good. Coffee in the Castle. Visited the market which was the quietest I had ever seen it. People seemed cheerful and friendly.

True but those spaces are limited and then when you get to an NCP car park...
Neath on 10:41 - May 15 with 723 views | Dr_Winston | Here we see the same phenomenon happening in York, with the quote from the local authority about "the new pricing structure making bus travel more affordable than car parking if staying for two hours or more" summing the problem up perfectly. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz9ywn3yjvqo

Neath on 11:49 - May 15 with 663 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | The latest harebrained scheme for a cash strapped council who is putting council tax through the roof is to spend a large amount of millions of pounds moving a perfectly good bus station about a hundred yards up the road to the train station. This will apparently create a “transport hub” and will presumably result in people flocking to the town to experience the vape shops and Turkish barber metropolis it has become.

Neath on 00:53 - May 16 with 478 views | Robbie | Have they demolished The Ambassador Hotel yet , what a state for visitors to Neath to see soon after leaving the train station , what a dump when I last visited Neef , Pontardawe swimming baths have now been flattened and NPT Council looked the other way and did not offer to help out , a disgrace for the community and skills necessary lost. Social housing will appear on the derelict site asap , a Council attending to local needs or a quick nod to to them getting things done within their own interest and targets . Pity they cannot sort the roads out plagued by potholes with as much gusto .
