I don't see the point in upgrading the Academy. A Category A Academy costs a fortune to run. We made money from the Academy when we had the revenues to be able to buy up youngsters from other clubs for around £500k. We were in a position to buy the best youngsters from lower clubs. We don't have that money any more. The lads coming through are the local ones that bigger clubs don't want. When we have good ones then they move to bigger clubs. Until we can grow our revenues then don't waste what we have got producing players that leave on a free. Keep it as it is or even cut it back further to save money.
I’m not sure it’s that simple.
It would be very interesting to see how the likes of Congreve and Cotterill would be doing now if they’d been playing against Category A academy sides regularly.
There’s no doubt these lads haven’t had the opportunity the likes of Rodon and Roberts did.
Would they be first team players or sold on for big money by now?

If we take as a given that the club is going to need £10-15m put in on an annual basis, then up to a third of that going to the running costs of a Cat 1 Academy rather than just being soaked up in player wages would seem to me to be a wise business move.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I see it as a Cat1 academy can actually generate money through sales and transfer savings if players progress through the ranks. We have owners who can actually afford to pay for this and it will not affect PSR. It is an absolute no brainer, if the owners really are fully committed.

Will they put their hand in their pockets? Let’s see what they are really made of
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Yes I agree with this. There are clear signs the academy has declined alarmingly from a very good place.
A lot of investment on players who were never going to be of a high enough standard.

This shows the company our u21s would be in if we got Cat1. Scroll down we get a mention near the bottom.

When the new owners came in didn't they talk about £20M on top for investment, or did I imagine it.
£21 million I believe.

I thought so. When you look at the maximum they can invest because of PSR there is plenty left over to upgrade the academy which falls outside the restrictions.
