Actually, sorry, the singing of Bird’s name when Mitchell started a few weeks ago when we were in good form was poor, er, form.

You missed six managers off that list James, is there a reason for that? One manager has won promotion with two different clubs. Thanks. [Post edited 9 Apr 17:43]

You do realise he's being paid an amount of money that most young(ish) men his age can only dream about, for doing something he presumably enjoys? Fan encouragement is of course great but if he has the slightest inclination to put in less than 100% he's not only at the wrong club, but in the wrong profession Said so at the time, but "No Kairo, No Party" is, and was, just bollocks

Far better players have dips in form they get paid eye watering sums

And there's a way of shoving that back down the fans throats and saying ' shut up' - and that is to play better and try harder than the other guy and finish easy chances like last night!

He has,nt had a dip in form. He has always been lacking the attributes of a forward player. As another contributor posted, the majority of his early season goals came from tap ins from goal line crosses. When they dried up, so did his goals. He,s the easiest opposition an opposing centre half gets all season. I find the notion of him being wanted by a league team laughable.

You were implying his lack of potency in front of goal was down to lack of fan encouragement I was simply puting you straight on that score... or failure to score

But why mention what might be earning? And it wasn't lack of encouragement it was fans actively letting him know they wanted another striker on the pitch and effectively cheering him being substituted

Irrespective of a player’s form or even that of the team (we’d just beaten Altrincham in the cup the game before and Bird had played well but was then rested), the reaction with the constant singing was pretty rubbish. That’s all it is and has nothing to do with the bigger picture.

The fans who're turning up are, in the vast majority of cases, getting by in a difficult financial environment and when spending their time and cash want to see someone who's being paid multiples of their income justifying it That's how it's always been at Dale. If you didn't know that before, you do now Becoming a pro footballer has potentially huge rewards, but there's a downside too. The same goes for becoming a manager No-one turns up to be negative (although some may jump on that opportunity sooner than others) but when we've had to endure the ignominy of nearly going out of existence and the loss of our 100+ years status as a football league club, we're desperate for signs that a corner has been turned. It really, really matters and therefore understandable that emotions run higher than some players may be able to cope with; managers too [Post edited 9 Apr 19:45]

See above. The incident to which I believe James refers is nothing about emotions running high. It was some wanting Bird on as soon as possible when leaving him on the bench due to his lack of match fitness made sense. It came across as petty on the night and was mentioned on here at the time.

It's therefore about emotions running high in wanting someone on the pitch who - rightly or wrongly - those fans making a noise believe will help us a win a game

Having endured it on the evening it was just petty and not helping anyone at that time. It achieved as much as chucking a toilet seat about at Halifax, which could also be put down to emotions running high.

None, i was wondering when Steve Evans won promotion to the football league as manager of Boston and Crawley. It was more than eleven years ago. I should have asked TVOS 😉 [Post edited 9 Apr 20:43]

Boston was 2002, Crawley 2011. Apart from one L2 promotion at Stevenage he’s been rubbish for the last decade. And his assistant is even worse.

Did brilliant at Stevenage recently and won promotion with them. He's got a better track record than most managers and won more promotions. Stick with Jim if you want nice. [Post edited 9 Apr 20:50]

I didn’t mention McNulty or his suitability! More than Evans is completely unsuitable despite the Stevenage success which was noted. I want a manager who wins football matches. Our most successful manager ever wasn’t someone you’d call “nice” and I wouldn’t have a pint with him. It’s irrelevant as long as they bring success and are good for the football club. Far too much assuming going on. In my opinion, based on his recent record and the way he has conducted himself down the years, Evans wouldn’t be.
