Refwatch - Sutton United v Rochdale on 20:48 - Apr 9 by TalkingSutty | Did brilliant at Stevenage recently and won promotion with them. He's got a better track record than most managers and won more promotions. Stick with Jim if you want nice. [Post edited 9 Apr 20:50]

Clarke would be a much better option than Evans. Didn't realise he'd played for us on loan in Parkins last half season with us. (Clarke not Evans).

Refwatch - Sutton United v Rochdale on 19:58 - Apr 9 by 442Dale | Having endured it on the evening it was just petty and not helping anyone at that time. It achieved as much as chucking a toilet seat about at Halifax, which could also be put down to emotions running high. |
Nah, that was premeditated, as it was at Macclesfield There were also some in the Pearl St on Saturday who came with the sole intention of causing trouble. One of them nearly landed on me as - eyeballs clearly showing signs of drug abuse - jumped off the pitch after causing havoc and run away down the exit tunnel He wouldn't have had a clue who Mitchell was, but those expressing their views at the game you refer to would

Refwatch - Sutton United v Rochdale on 20:55 - Apr 9 by 442Dale | I didn’t mention McNulty or his suitability! More than Evans is completely unsuitable despite the Stevenage success which was noted. I want a manager who wins football matches. Our most successful manager ever wasn’t someone you’d call “nice” and I wouldn’t have a pint with him. It’s irrelevant as long as they bring success and are good for the football club. Far too much assuming going on. In my opinion, based on his recent record and the way he has conducted himself down the years, Evans wouldn’t be. |
Yes, Evans behaviour going back quite a few years wasnt great. It was a name i threw out there, i like his football and his passion. It's the opposite to what we have now. McNulty's a wet lettuce and so is his team. Invariably they have the strength of a wet lettuce and when the pressure is on they wilt like one. Bottling a place in the play offs, it's been like a open goal for weeks and none of them have the balls to even speak about them, especially the manager, hes been frightened to death of it since the season started. They bottled the Spennymoor game also, like rabbits caught in the headlights, scared to death. [Post edited 9 Apr 21:21]

All the stated: helped nobody. And equally embarrassing for all concerned. Especially, as mentioned, it came from the same area which had lauded Mitchell previously.

If it was just a name thrown out there, fair enough. I’d rather we had a manager who could introduce some steel into our team, players who know how to win games irrespective of the style of football played. That’s something Hill managed across his tenure as went through various styles of play including ‘No fear’ to ‘footballing teams to death’ to a more tactical approach where we would hit teams on the break. All done with the right players who knew how to win games. [Post edited 9 Apr 21:26]

Yes, when Hill was good. He didn't win games across his tenure though and was deservedly relieved of his job. He didn't have the right players in the end neither, he had a few dozen and most were crap. So were his tactics, especially defensively. You know that anyway. He was good and bad just like Evans, except Evans had a much better managerial record. It's a funny old game. [Post edited 9 Apr 21:46]

Was trying to show what a “good Rochdale manager” looks like. They all inevitably either move on because they’re doing well or get sacked when they aren’t. Hill was the one who managed far more of the former, was clever tactically and was even good defensively for quite a long time!

Yes our best manager ever. Another who hated expectation though, he lost his job at Tranmere because of it. Nobody at the club, including the fans, had any right whatsoever to have any expectations according to Hill. This was just before they competed in the play offs. They sacked him because of those comments and rightly so. McNulty needs to be careful. [Post edited 9 Apr 21:56]

Let’s hope our next manager doesn’t mention expectations then. Unfortunately, I think we’ll find that it’s commonplace. Look at the tactics Alex Ferguson would use to reduce pressure on his players, his autobiography is well worth a read.

If you don't have expectations what's the point in going to the match? When i go fishing i expect to catch a fish depending on the location. I'd stay at home otherwise. Ignore what 'football people' think and say. Expectations is all part of the game, it wasn't unreasonable to expect we would beat Spennymoor on Saturday. Jim won't like it but that's not our problem. It’s normal to have expectations and it’s pretty easy to ignore when those in the game try to play them down as it’s an obvious tactic that’s developed over the years. As a fanbase, I think we’ve always had realistic expectations in the main over the years. There will always be some who don’t, but it’s not who we are as a club unlike other local sides.

Spot on, unreasonable expectations are the ones that managers are right to call out. For instance, if we do make the play offs i don't think any Dale fan would expect us to win them. We would have a chance but those finishing second and third have a easier route. There would be expectations to put in a fighting performance though and give it a real good go.

Refwatch - Sutton United v Rochdale on 23:08 - Apr 8 by wheniwasyourage | Tremendous Effort, Terrible Result – But We’re Building Something YUGE! Right off the bat — let me tell you — I thought we played very, very well. People are saying, “Sir, you don’t usually play that well and lose.” And they’re right! We were unlucky. Total freak goal. You won’t see another like it for weeks, maybe months — some say ever. We go again at the weekend. That’s all I’ve got to say about the game. Now let’s talk about the manager. I’ve said it before — not good enough. Never have thought he was. I believe I once described him as a “small parish choirmaster” — and look, folks, on reflection, I might have been generous. He’s more like a small parish choirmaster being played by Mr. Bean. Sad! The owners, the CEO, the whole so-called management team — they’re not interested in your opinions. Don’t take it personally. They don’t care. What they do have is a plan — a medium-term plan. Not this year, never was. They’re putting in some kind of “DNA” — people keep saying that — into the way we play. Now look, even I, with my very fair, very objective prejudice, can see the manager is improving the squad. Better players coming in each season. I expect more — much more — in the close season. Next year, folks, big push. HUGE. I said we’d just miss the playoffs. Hope I’m wrong. Honestly, I’d love to be wrong — I’m not often, but it would be beautiful. Still, it’s not a devastating result. This is a foundation — big word — that’s going to last another 100 years. That’s what we’re building here. Decided to post this with a little AI help, in the style of our glorious leader of the free world— just for a bit of light relief. Keep the faith. Up the Dale! |
This is Vladimir Putin's version - cold.. THE MARCH OF ROCHDALE CONTINUES — UNBROKEN, UNBOWED Comrades, Today, the result was not in our favour. But victory is not always measured in goals. Sometimes, it is measured in spirit, in discipline, in the refusal to kneel before chaos. The enemy scored a goal — yes — but it was an accident of nature. A moment of disorder. It changes nothing. The mission continues. Our men fought with courage. With resolve. No surrender. And that is the true legacy of Rochdale. Let the weak celebrate small victories. We are building something greater — something eternal. Now, to leadership. I will speak plainly. The manager... is not a strong man. He has the face of a schoolteacher and the tactics of a provincial librarian. I once called him a “parish choirmaster.” That was generous. A choirmaster at least commands a tune. He conducts confusion. And still, he stands. Why? Because behind him, forces move. Quiet. Cold. Strategic. The board? Remote. Silent. They do not answer to the people — but to something else. A vision. Long-term. Beyond understanding. They speak of DNA, identity, foundations. These are not lies. But they are... inconvenient truths. And yet, something stirs. I have seen it. New players — stronger, harder, more ruthless. The soft underbelly of the past is being replaced by iron. There is a plan. And next year... the reckoning comes. A great surge. Not optional. Not negotiable. I said we would fall just short of the playoffs. I do not rejoice in this. I am no prophet — only a servant of inevitability. This season is not failure. It is preparation. It is laying the granite for a fortress that will stand for 100 years. Let the others mock. Let them laugh. They do not understand what we are becoming. But one day, they will. And when they do... it will be too late. Stand firm. Trust the cause. Glory to Rochdale. For the Badge. For the People. Forever.
