Colback has shown the grit we have needed 22:55 - Apr 9 with 4228 viewsnumptydumpty

I have not always been Jack's greatest fan, but his combative style of play and letting the opposition know he is on the pitch has been a crucial element in us gaining the vital four points we have gained against two of our relegation rivals in the last few days

I understand he is 35 and sometimes he can be a potential liability ie almost guaranteed yellow card a game but his robust presence has been key.

He does the not so glamorous stuff better than most

Understand he maybe on a relatively high wage but would any have him here for another season.

Depends on his salary demands I would say.

A decision to be made...

Agreed - though a big shout for the defence too. I think (not sure) that you were critical of the length of contract given to Colback when he came in (or was it Cook, or was it both?), so do you think he should be retained? I'm stuck between the pros and cons.

If he will agree to much reduced basic wages but with enhanced appearance money then yes I would go one more year with Jack.

You don't win (m)any games losing midfield. Ours has been a big problem all year but the three last night - Varane, Field and Colback - stepped up and had great games, which is the main reason we won.

I've been saying this for years. It's high time we rectified this issue by sourcing tough but creative box-to-box midfielders who can break the lines and split defences.

Easier said than done, and they tend to cost a lot.

He is 'big' for us......its all down to the size of the contract that he wants. His fitness, when fit, is not an issue on the pitch, he gets around very well - he is a fit lad.

Every decent side has a player whose job description could be summed up as 'Seek-And-Destroy'. For example we've had Shaun Derry, Marc Bircham and Ian Holloway play that role for us at different times. Even players like Josh Scowen or Geoff Cameron were pretty effective at it. We haven't really had anyone do that specific job for a little while, so Ainsworth signing Colback made some sort of sense, even though I thought Jack was past his best. I don't think we should keep him on but we need someone to do what he does at his best.

I remember the French team that won the World Cup. With Zidane, Viera, Petit, Thuram and Henry. But they still needed the hod carrier in Didier Deschamps.

If we are going to say goodbye to these Cook/Colback types this summer, I think it would be a mistake to think we can replace them all off the computer. We need some of that experience, physicality, game intelligence in this division.

When he's fit he makes us a much better team, problem is how many games can you get out of him in a season.

Clive is right though he's experience would be a big loss, same with Cook

I would keep them both for this very reason. They set the example with their commitment. Colback would be useful next year. Varane, Field and Morgan (earlier season version) are athletic and mobile and Colback could fit well into the midfield jigsaw. Bit of grit, good positionally and underrated distribution. Varane is different gravy and I would build the team around him Morrison and hopefully a rejuvenated Charlie K. He has the potential to be a premiership midfielder. I absolutely loved watching him against Oxford.

Ha ha ha Norf, replace them off a computer.

Experience & knowledge is vital and yet another reason why MC picks Cook & Colback when he can.

I would suggest it will be down to 'cash' & if the player wants to stay here.....they will know what QPR can afford to pay them. No issues with either of their performances.
