QPR have a less than 0.1% chance of being relegated... on 15:09 - Apr 17 by DannyPaddox | Next season will be our 11th consecutive Championship season. I don’t think any of the current teams has been in the Championship longer. I wonder what the longest stint in the second tier has been - and was said stint ended by a promotion or a relegation. |
Ipswich went 15 seasons in the championship before getting relegated 5 years ago.The budgies used to have a minutes applause in the old farm derby. [Post edited 17 Apr 15:56]

We've had a fair amount of relegation excitement.

QPR have a less than 0.1% chance of being relegated... on 07:34 - Apr 17 by LimehouseR | I can't believe that between Bristol City and Preston, we are the clubs with the current longest spell in the Championship (almost 10 years). How we have managed not to get relegated in that time with the losing record we have is a miracle! |
I guess that's what they meant by consolidating in this league.

QPR have a less than 0.1% chance of being relegated... on 17:43 - Apr 17 with 681 views | Dorse | '...More than 12 million people bought tickets to Championship games in 2023-24 - an increase of 22% on the previous season and the highest overall attendance since records began in 1892. 'The figure is higher than Germany's Bundesliga, Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A, making the Championship the second highest-attended league in Europe, behind the Premier League...' I know we like to give off 'wouldn't want to go up anyway' vibes but it just goes to show that the Championship, with all its faults, is still a massive draw. I mean, there are some big leagues there and yet more come to watch the likes of Oxford, Stoke and Preston across a season than Real or Bayern! Absolutely mental!

I think you need to look at how those numbers really breakdown. A Bundesliga season has 306 matches. The Championship is 552 matches, plus playoffs and a Wembley final. In terms of average attendance we are a lot less than Bundesliga 2 where there are some very big stadiums which regularly get packed out because of reasonable pricing. Championship average = 24,143 https://footystats.org/england/championship/attendance Bundesliga 2 average = 34,972 https://footystats.org/germany/2-bundesliga/attendance The highest attendance for a Championship game this season is Sunderland v Coventry 43,374. That would just about scrape into the top 20 Bundesliga 2 attendances where they have had two attendances over 70,000, six over 60k, and twelve 50k+. For completeness the Bundesliga average this season is 57,565 with fifteen gates of 75,000+ https://footystats.org/germany/bundesliga/attendance In fact if you look very hard at the numbers then the BBC's maths starts to look a bit suspect. The Championship gets more bums on seats across a whole season than Bundesliga 2 but is well short of what the Bundesliga gets - at least based on this season.
