Shameful by Southampton Football Club on 10:56 - Apr 21 with 2062 views | SaintNick | Pat what can anyone say about this, you have made it quite clear that you have no respect for other peoples opinions on the club unless they coincide with your own by what you have said in this post. You have read an article in the Echo, not the most reliable in the way they report, but as it fits your viewpoint of the club, used it as a stick to beat it with. It's not an ideal situation, I would probably be upset myself, but it's not like they have knocked it down and threw it away as the article goes on to say, they are looking at a more long term plan for the bricks etc. If they had moved the bricks and built them into the fanzones, you would be complaining about the club spending good money on moving the bricks when the team is in disarray. I thought long and hard about replying to this post as I consider you a friend, I have to bite my tongue a lot this season when some of my friends post stuff on social media that are completely different from my own view, but I find this post a little offensive as it is saying "I don’t give two sh**s about what you or anyone else thinks" Isn't that exactly what you are accusing Southampton FC in doing The problem that they have is that it is 24 years since these bricks were put in, they probably have no way of contacting people who bought them back then to let them know of changes. I'm not sticking up for the club or otherwise, they probably hadn't realised that the bricks were actually there, given you could probably count on one hand anyone still working for them now who was there 24 years ago

I fully accept a different regime was in charge when the bricks were put in. If the Club had no way of contacting people, would it not have been a good PR move to explain publicly what they were intending to do, and to give some notice of this, so that fans who had bought bricks could as far as possible have some way of preparing for this? It's the lack of the apology as well though. It just smacks of "we don't care about you, unless you want to come in the fanzones or Dell bar and give us more of your money." Given how terrible things have been on the pitch, they should be moving heaven and earth to keep the fans on board.

Nick for to many years the club has been badly run ,and yet you always try to seemingly make out it’s a good thing and the club is well run. The current owners have taken an establishment premiership club and turned us into a laughing stock. They have been a disaster end of. Success is measured purely on the pitch.

Shameful by Southampton Football Club on 12:11 - Apr 21 with 1928 views | Southamptonfan | As long as something makes a profit (for SR), nothing else matters. These are the type of people who own our club. They don't care about their supporters, just their profit. That's the way our wonderful game has gone, but this lot couldn't give two sh!ts about the fans. [Post edited 21 Apr 12:13]

A lesson Rupert Lowe failed to understand with similar results But he did get the club a new stadium in spite of Hampshire County Council blocking the original site near the airport. A change that has worked out for the better. A bit of tactful forthought would have served the club well in the memorial brick scenario. Still not too late for them to respond with a worthy gesture. As always those in middle management are only concerned with the short term gain.

Pat, it appears to me that to you the “bricks problem” is actually a symptom of a greater disease so to speak. The disease is Sports Republic’s apparently total inability to successfully communicate and empathise with it’s own supporters. Two totally different examples come to mind :- 1. No acknowledgment or tribute following the death of Chris Nicholl. 2. The pricing of this season’s F A Cup games. I’m not sure how, but to me in years past being a Southampton fan was being part of a bigger family. We stuck together through good and bad times because there was a view that the Club cared about us. Sports Republic and their inept employees have totally destroyed that bond. In fact it now appears to me to be “a them and us situation” much along the lines of give us your money or bugger off. Much like Butty I find Nick’s slavish support of all things Sports Republic to be completely unfathomable but at the end of the day he is entitled to his opinion. I’m confident differing views won’t end your friendship, after all there’s more to life than football. [Post edited 21 Apr 12:33]

Nick is a far more loyal fan of the Club than I will ever be. This is despite the shameful way he was treated by the Club when a previous regime was in charge. I respect that he has differing views to me on issues, but that he has allowed them to be voiced on here over the many years he has kept this site going. I suspect I have overstepped the mark at times; it has not been done with any personal malice. It is however ultimately a consequence of what has been happening on the pitch. Shameful by Southampton Football Club on 13:18 - Apr 21 with 1743 views | Buggalugs | Which top clubs do give a shit about their fans anymore though? Very few in the top 2 divisions I’d suggest. There’s plenty of things a football club could do to breed that feeling of togetherness, community and to show fans they’re appreciated, but as most of those gestures would involve a financial outlay, they pretty much all choose not to. SFC are no different from the others in that respect, it’s just amplified due to the shitshow of a season we’ve had to endure.

Shameful by Southampton Football Club on 13:36 - Apr 21 with 1703 views | kingslandstand1 | There is no apparent apology within the article judging by that statement but I see they have actually already moved some bricks! I do wonder if those affected by that have been notified? They also say that they will be moving more and having a more permanent memorial of some sort. Let's just hope some consideration for those that spent probably quite a few bob on those bricks are kept up to date with that! Also that wonderful local rag we have should make theirs minds up as well. Headline says temporary ticket office, and then it's a hot wings and chips stall!

The Chris Nicholl situation was not a simple matter, it stems from the Bob Higgins criminal convictions for abusing young players during the 1980's. when he was convicted it was claimed that those in charge of the club at the time were aware of the situation but ignored it, during most of that time Chris Nicholl was the manager, back when managers controlled the whole footballing side of things from the youth team up. When he died, the club chose not to do a tribute because they felt that this would draw attention to Nicholl and the media would drag it all up and this would be upsetting for his family at an awful time for him as it was . Now I am not saying hat what the club did was right, but they felt it was the best thing to do rather than risk the medial dragging his name through the dirt. This is not sticking up for Sport Republic, it is just telling it how it was, we did an interview with Alan Shearer, Neil Ruddock & one of those who was a victim back in 1991 (ish) and from what they said, the whole club knew what was happening and those in charge did nothing. I have mentioned this on several occasions, but the actual truth doesn't fit the narrative in this case

Where in my original post have i said that the club is well run or stuck up for Sport Republic, most of my posts tend to try and give both perspectives, those who are blindly flying off abuse at SR in all directions are actually clouding the issue, in the grand scheme of things the fact that a couple of hundred bricks are blocked by a van or two is right at the bottom of the scale. Whose decision was it to put a chicken wings van in front of them ? certainly not Dragan Solak or Rasmus Ankersen, probably not even Phil Parsons. All people complaining at every little issue does it make those reading the comments wonder why every petty thing that happens at the club is slagged off by the fans. If you all feel so strongly about this, which you all clearly do, then why don't you all meet up on Saturday and form a human chain around the Chicken Wing van and prevent anyone getting to it, I am sure you will get the Echo down to take a photo and highlight just how badly the club is now run . It isn't going to happen though is it.

Pat Thank you for taking the comments I made in a positive manner. Yes when Cortese was in charge the club was in disarray and I was banned from having a season tickets, no one was kicking off then and saying how badly the club were treating its fans and indeed players with Matt Le Tissier & Francis Benali banned from St Mary's, because the team was doing well. That is football fans all over, the only benchmark as to how a club is run is results on the field, but football is littered with clubs who have had moments of success and then it all collapses as it is built on sand, Pompey, Bradford, Oldham even West Ham who are again kicking off at the owners, after a couple of years of the team doing well, so all is forgotten for a while. Pat everyone oversteps the marks at times, my whole reply was not to disagree with your view, only to point out that in my opinion you were disrespecting others, I rarely have to remove a post on here and i never do just because i disagree. You are 100% right fortunes on the pitch dictate moods and at Wembley 11 months ago, no one was moaning about Sports Republic, we all thought we had turned a corner and we had, but we failed to react to Jason Wilcox's departure and have now paid the price. Truth is that even if we had kept him it would have been hard to stay up, look at Leicester & Ipswich, they love their owners, but ultimately they are in only a slightly better position than us, that is the nature of the Premier League now.
