Discussion? 17:55 - Apr 21 with 1390 views | dna | Is it Williams/Sheehan Or Grimes/O'Brien Maybe a combination??
Discussion? on 18:01 - Apr 21 with 1345 views | Dr_Winston | Biggest single problem was Williams and his chosen style of play. Much like when Russy was in charge, a capable squad of players was made to look much worse than it actually was because the manager was more interested in trying to make them fit his system than choosing a system to fit them. Maybe Grimes would have bucked up under Sheehan, maybe not. LoB is a much better player and we needed a break from him anyway so it all worked out in the end. [Post edited 21 Apr 18:01]

We need to be looking towards next season. Darling probably gone, O'brien probably gone, Delcroix probably gone all excellent players and will be missed. Our excellent run is not going unnoticed, secure Sheehan and we will seem an attractive proposition to players we want to sign.
Discussion? on 18:50 - Apr 21 with 1187 views | vetchonian | it's a combination...but O Brien makes a huge difference could you see Grimes offering us the same as he does under Sheehan? I'm not so sure Sheehan would have been as successful with Grimes still here but that said let's not take anything away from Sheehan and what he has dome

If Darling goes I'd certainly be targeting Delcroix as a potential replacement. He's slotted in very well.

Wycombe lost today and the door is wide open for Wrexham. If Wycombe don't go up we may be back in for their defender.

If Darling goes we may be in the market for two anyway, unless Lissah is ready to step up or they're happy to keep Naughton around as a backup. The latter option wouldn't concern me one bit.

Agree. If a coach/manager hasn't got the players to play the way they want they have to be pragmatic and capable of changing tactics and systems. Saying trust in the system and keeping playing it when everyone, players, fans and coaches know that the players don't fit that system is the definition of insanity. Also if Plan A isn't working a plan B or even C is needed. Plan B can't be keep on with plan A but try and do it better. See also Southampton. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Two coaches cut from the same cloth. The club understood that Martin's approach was fatally flawed when they appointed Duff. Doing a complete 180 when we sacked Duff and giving Russy's clone the job has basically wasted two years.

Since Cooper was sacked we've basically foundered about making bad choice after bad choice. Unlike others I can't even blame the players because they've been brought in to do jobs that managers have either not wanted or been capable of employing them to do effectively. Sheehan may be the best option just because of the simplicity that he offers. Here's a guy who picks people in their best positions and sends the team out to play in a way that suits them. Radical thinking the way that the game is going.

He also tinkers with formations and rotates the team for different types of teams we play.

Grimes was always excellent when he played higher up the pitch. He was an absolute waster sitting ten yards behind the centre backs. Don’t know if he was being told to play like that or he was just doing his own thing but it held us back massively.
