Swansea Reflection 17:56 - Apr 21 with 7081 views | bluenwhite10 | Disappointing performance by Rangers today. The game was lost in the 1st 70 minutes due to the lack of urgency, effort, spark, fight against a side who fairness had a go. Swansea where full of shithousery today and played that well today with the time wasting, the nudges in the back, the fake head injuries etc…, The referee was very poor today with some very strange decisions and seemed to let a lot go which opened the doors to all of the above, but that is no excuses for the poor performance and if my memory serves me well only 1 shot on target, but I guess Swansea only had two. Poor performances from Dunne, Fox, Anderson, Yang, Kolli, The changes did spark a reaction and fine ball from Madsen. Would have liked to see a system change instead of a personnel change today as something different was needed as the game went on. Varanne a massive miss today for 2 reason a) quality player b It took Edwards out of the back 4 and put Fox in. Least nothing was riding on the game MOM at a push Colback/ Morrison

Swansea Reflection on 01:28 - Apr 22 by simmo | When you look at some of the 11's we've had to start or end games with this season, I don't think remarkable is an exaggeration. Those missing just today would represent 8 or 9 starters, yet we were still competitive. I think we can concede that there's been a few times this season Marti was probing ideals over pragmatism which might have cost us, and similarly is guilty of slow changes like any manager, but we've had no decent striker all season - fit or not - but this is also the year we've shared goals around more than any other. I personally think the difference between us and Sheff Wens over the bottom 6/7 this season are very good managers, nothing else. [Post edited 22 Apr 15:05]

I think that was Swansea’s full first team could be minus 1 or 2 so they have consistency in their starting 11 something we haven’t had all season We are hamstrung without a target man so double hamstring. When Frey came on their centre backs sudddenly came under pressure hence our chance came to turn the game around

But that's on Marti. 100% Frey should have started the game. Yes, he has been hampered by injuries this season but he has got it wrong a number of times and been schooled by the likes of Rohl. Absolutely deserves another season but shouldn't get a free pass for what has been a pretty awful season.
Swansea Reflection on 06:57 - Apr 22 with 1579 views | HammersmithR | The team just looked poor from the start. So many key players out injured. Never known a season like it for injuries. For this game we were missing the following that would probably have started. 1. Paal 2. Cook 3. Field 4. Varane 5. Smyth 6. Frey 7. Chair 8. Dembele 9. Saito But a side starting with Andersen and Madsen will never win you many games at this level. We had zero pace going forward. Thankfully we have the points to stay up and we have to work out how to avoid all these injuries next year. First thing is to sack off that bloke on his sun lounger in Dubai WFH!

Imagine what he could do if we made him a striker and it was on purpose ! The data shows huge potential for a partnership with Owain Goal, extend their contracts immediately. #foxtup

He already said that 40 minutes was the maximum he could get out of Frey at this time and he wanted to start both he and Kolli but couldn’t .

Add JCS and Celar to that , plus Lloyd not on the bench. It’s just unprecedented. Still naffed off about yesterday but when you look at those injuries , it’s a wonder and a miracle we ain’t getting smashed every game . We might well do Saturday .
Swansea Reflection on 07:33 - Apr 22 with 1458 views | thehat | Agree we needed a system change to suit the personal available as the game just reiterated what we have seen all season. 1) Fox can not play in a 2 at centre half it needs to be in a 3 2) Anderson and Madsen are luxury players that can not play in the same starting 11. Especially if the third player in your 3 is Yang. None of them tracked back enough when needed. This is something Paul Smyth does in spades and was missed. You need to work really hard off the ball closing down space. Swansea did that all game we were really poor without the ball. Desire and energy win you games in The Championship especially in midfield. At the end of the day it boiled down to Swansea wanted it more all over the pitch and won most of their duels and 50/50's. On the plus side Colback still has legs and should get another year providing it's on sensible money. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Had Smyth been available, he could have punched the ref in the stomach.

Swansea Reflection on 07:48 - Apr 22 with 1383 views | dmm | Regarding the injuries this season, it's interesting to see Marti's post match comments here where he says: "Asked if the injuries were merely bad luck or an issue which needed to be addressed, Cifuentes said: “Generally in life I don’t believe in luck or bad luck. Obviously there is nothing you can do about Sam Field getting a tackle – that’s part of the game. Perhaps we need to review other areas. Definitely I think we are going to do that internally. It’s the first time in my career I’ve experienced something like this (so many injuries) and definitely, as in all areas, we need to improve.” https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/cifuentes-on-three-positives-for-qpr-the-con Someone said our Director of Performance, Ben Williams, was at the game yesterday. Will he be held accountable, I wonder?

Swansea Reflection on 10:23 - Apr 22 with 1084 views | daveB | I was quite impressed with Swansea, thought they played well and fully deserved the win I thought we missed Smyth on the right and paying Anderson and Madsen together just didn't work, we just didn't have any pace or energy in the attack. Madsen was good on the ball again, lovely pass for the goal but looked a bit lost out wide. I thought Dembele and Morgan should have been on at half time for Fox and Yang with Edwards slotting back in defence Kolli did OK, would have liked to see him playing off Frey but bot coming back from injury so can see why he didn't do that Sutton made some lovely runs but we never spotted them and were back to five passes too many in the build up which was far too slow. Saying all that we were always in the game and weren't far off nicking a point the referee was comically bad for both sides, like he's won a raffle to be in charge
Swansea Reflection on 11:48 - Apr 22 with 974 views | themodfather | poor ref agreed but we probably felt, job done, this started for us, like a friendly. we only livened up when Frey came on. for me, relieved and happy we stayed up with games to spare, the next 2 games are going to be HELL for some fans but not us.
Swansea Reflection on 12:10 - Apr 22 with 922 views | nadera78 | The more I watch Kolli play, the more convinced I am he needs to play as part of a front two. He hasn't got the physicality or skillset to play on his own, nor when part of a 3 behind a centre forward. He'll score goals at this level, but he needs to play alongside a big, athletic partner. From the very, very little I've seen of Kelman, my hunch is that he will be the same in the championship. That means we need to alter our approach, but how you get two up front without being outmanned or too rigid in midfield is the conundrum. You certainly need players with legs even to consider it - and that's not something we're blessed with.

Well he's got 4 goals and 2 assists in 8 starts and 10 subs in the league during a difficult season without playing in a two. So not all that bad. I think he does best as an inverted wide attacker anyway.

Not really. When you watch him in that role, he doesn't do any of the things needed from a player in that solo role to bring other players into the game. It requires a very particular skillset - think Heidar Helguson. You're up against 2 CBs, and you need to not only win the ball against them, but hold onto it long enough for deeper players to get up and support you. That needs physicality, yes, but also touch, craft and guile. Knowing what defenders like to do and not do, what your team mates like and don't like. How to position yourself for contact, how to hold players off, how to win free kicks. And then you also need to chip in with some goals yourself. I like Kolli, he's obviously got talent, but it's a very very difficult role - as evidenced by how expensive those players are and that I've had to go back 15 years to find a player we had capable of doing it. Spot on about the ref. He was awful . One incident he gave a foul on one of our players for a high boot . In reality it was a Swansea low head . If you’re dumb enough to put your head that low , you will get a whack .
