Swans still to have official talks with Sheehan on 21:02 - Apr 22 by Dr_Winston
Less than two months ago lots of people were horrified at the prospect of "Cheap Option" "Watson's Mate" getting even a caretaker role.
The club can't afford to be as changeable as supporters often are. They have to be sure that the decision they make is the right one. I don't blame them for taking their time over it, even if I agree that he's probably the logical choice.
You are right most were happy for sheehan to be a stop gap but in the last two months as we all know he has been absolutely fantastic for us.
He definitely deserves the job full time.

I don't disagree.
I'm also well aware that if it doesn't work out in the long term some people will be criticising them for going down the "Easy, cheap" route and appointing him instead of the latest Euro darling.
At the very least we can probably expect to be competent under Sheehan. Certainly no mugs, probably fighting for a top ten spot without too much trouble. The club will be asking itself if there's someone out there who can potentially offer more than that.
It's a hard call to make. They don't deserve grief over it.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Sheehan will get more leeway than any other manager would for what he has done in two stints.
As you say he will probably be more competent for what he has shown in his two stints, definitely in his second he has shown that he can change formations for different teams we play.
If sheehan get reinforcements in especially a no 10, an experienced no 9, hopefully keep o'brien and darling he can definitely get us challenging for a play off place, apart from the relegated 3 from the PL there is no one to fear.
If the club don't appoint sheehan and get a European then the new man will be starting on the backfoot straightaway, the fans will wary and will be on his back if we hit a slump and they will also be targeting the 2 league two executives.

That's the way it will be, hopefully we will make the correct decision. If they employ someone else and they struggle in the beginning the writing will be on the wall for Gorringe.

Surely the situation can only be now:- We arranged to review at the end of the season and the situation can be sorted then. I have read somewhere also that if Sheehan is offered the position he would want to see what the clubs ambition and financial backing he would have for next season before he would accept. I certainly hope that is the reality because he's gone from not too many supporters wanting him in charge.(Cheap option). To not many wanting him not to get the gig.

His ability to source and develop less expensive replacements will also be a consideration when making the appointment. Does he have the knowledge needed to unearth a gem? Dies Hellberg have the advantage over him in this department?

The advantage Sheehan has over any other candidates is time served and delivering on average 2pts a game during his tenure. He has rescued our season when no other candidate would risk their reputation. He has stated he wants to take the club forward and won’t settle for average. That’s the message I get from his interviews and that may well lead to him not being hired.

Doesn't that role come under Tom Montague?

I wouldn't have though sourcing would not be his prime objective. Developing yes. We've seen a number of players develop/improve since his appointment and the results have gone hand in hand. He would need to say very little in his conversation with the board . Just show a couple of screenshots of before and after.

He has got a tune out of some of our players who look far better the more game time they have got in a structured team who seem to know what is being asked of them. We do need other players in to increase the strength of the squad for a full season given the effect injuries have on the match day squad, just knowing you have players on the bench who can step in to cover any match day injuries makes a difference, are there players on the bench who can change games I don't think we have enough options up front at the moment but in the off season will need to sort that out.

Definitely Richard Montague and his team to do.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Nobody was upset at Sheehan getting the jon as caretaker, his previous record suggested he'd be a safe pair of hands in the short term.
Then we had the benefit of longer exposure to him and his ability, this isn't fans being fickle, this is Sheehan having proved himself over 10 games and more. Yes he is the cheap option still but largely because we won't have to buy out a contract to get him here, he'll still deserve a proper contract on suitable terms.
Thing is, taking their time now isn't seen as being wise, what more does Sheehan have to do to get the nod from them? Then, what if we lose him and they appoint the person it's been suggested Gorringe wants and he's a total failure?
Taking their time was giving him til the end of the season, still "thinking about it" now is dithering at best because he has proved himself to the players, proved himself to the vast majority of the fans, he's gotten better results than anybody expected too.
What more does he have to do?

Could it really be the case of the club's and Sheehan's visions not aligning
He's been with us as a coach since 2023 and has seen 4 or 5 shambolic transfer windows and you would imagine would want to know that what was promised, if he became manager, would actually be delivered.

Maybe Sheehan is disappointed he didn't get the job after Duff?
